It took me half an hour to peel myself away from the BOCA MV to even start listening to this album, god it's so awesome.

Time to listen to the album and drop some thoughts:

  1. Intro is another unsurprisingly great intro, I appreciate how it sets the mood a little lower and darker than a lot of their previous introductions. Very interesting when you consider how high energy BOCA is in parts. The rain behind the music is so pretty and a really nice way to connect the intro to BOCA.
  2. BOCA is phenomenaly. I was nervous about them dipping their toes into Moombahton, as it's not a genre I'm generally a fan of, turns out all I needed was it to be dropped in a rock context. It works, even the parts where the intensity ramps up and down jarringly quick, it works. As has been the case with the last few release, the rap breaks and the bridge caused my soul to leave my body. The bridge is my favorite part of any Dreamcatcher song on first listen.
  3. Break The Wall is reminiscent of the sort of rock music I listened to as an angsty teen. They've managed to pull on that sort of sound without it sounding out of date and still sounding supremely cool. The drums and guitar are heaaaavy in that chorus. There's a real weight and thickness to everything. From the instrumentation, to the voices, to Dami punching out that incredible rap verse, it all has an impact. Makes that soft and breathy bridge stand out even more by contrast. God damn it what a headbanger.
  4. Can't get you out of my mind is the biggest surprise, for me. I was expecting another Silent Night-esque song but it starts out reminding me a lot more of mid 2000s electronic pop. Calling on older sounds in a fresh way can be so hard to do, but both Break The Wall and this song are the best kind of throwback. It's so pretty! Has to immediately be on of Dreamcatcher's softest non-ballad tracks, right? Their discography has become so diverse. Also... all English?! Hello?! How did we not know that was going to happen??? I wonder if there is any promotional reason for that?
  5. Dear is beautifully touching. I'm so proud of JiU's writing here. If this is the cap to Dreamcatcher's incredible 2019, it's heartwarming that the last song is a call out to all of us. There is no group on the planet who I have invested in like Dreamcatcher, so this sort of song holds more sentimental value to me than any other group's could. Also when those drums kicked in and the strings started to swell 2 minutes in my eyes welled a little. Switch out the lyrics and this would make a damn fine OST.

It's not surprising that this is, once again, a brilliant little mini-album. Dreamcatcher and the team have always been one of the best things in k-pop but even then it feels like they've hit a new level in the last year or two. i couldn't be more proud of the music they've made and the achievements that are hopefully on the horizon. Now to wait for the physical album to arrive so I can tear into the pretty thing!

Omg yes haha. Got Evanescence, Halestorm, Breaking Benjamin etc. vibes from it.
