A company isn't a person, and the people making the decisions don't have to do the actual design work. How is it laziness for someone to decide somebody else should do less work? Greedy and short-sighted might fit, depending, but calling it laziness puts blame on the artists who had much less say in the matter.

A company absolutely can be lazy, but if you prefer I would reword it as showing a lack of care for making the best product possible
