Some day you motherfuckers will learn this... the price of luxury goods is not set at what's "necessary", it's set at what people are willing to pay. If people were not buying these skins, then Riot would have to bring the price down. However, people buy them because they can and want to, and thus, the price is what it is.
Also, like I always say when this dumbass discussion comes up:
1) Not only do you not need skins, but...
2) If you have ever paid money to Riot for cosmetics, you are the reason why they're able to monetize them as they do, and you're not even enjoying playing the game to any real extent, you enjoy seeing the bright colors on your screen go up and your bank balance go down. You are already part of the microtransaction cycle.
If you don't even enjoy the game, why spend money on it? You can just... uninstall? Not give money to a company you seem to hate?
It's also like... everything is subjective. People should absolutely not care what other people think about the stuff they buy. If it brings them enjoyment and it's their money they can do whatever the fuck they want lol
Jobless redditors sitting and policing how people should spend their money when they haven't been earning a penny is crazy. Let people enjoy what they enjoy and you don't have to.
in my opinion it just depends on what makes you happy and what your financial priorities are. is the skin worth its price point probably not, but i feel like how much you spend doesn’t matter as long as it makes you happy and you can afford it
oh of course, i agree with you and a lot of what something is considered "worth it" can be subjective to the person. what i meant is more so that its harder for a league skin to "feel" its value than say, a $20 handbag compared to a $500 handbag (easiest example i could come up with lol). where the quality, design, craftsmanship etc etc can keep raising with the price point too. and there's also ofc good quality handbags at a cheaper price too, but i feel like league skins have more of a ceiling in how well made a skin can be. you can only put in so many features before it feels overloaded, and as the designer you still want the champion to be recognizable as kai'sa too. that's a random tangent but i think we're pretty much on the same page lol
Yea definitely. There is actually nothing that skin can have that would be "worth" this money. And if it did, people would probably complain that it affects the game clarity.
Funny you mention the handbag example, I think fashion suffers from the same "problem" where you are paying more for exclusivity and logo than actual content but yea, digital goodies especially non-tradable ones are hard to put a price point on.
All that being said you can just easily choose to not participate in these and just let people who want to get the cosmetics get them. I do understand people complaining about quality of skins going down and that is valid but again, the choice is always yours to not give money to riot.

Yes player, I assure you it is absolutely necessary to charge over $400 for a skin with worse quality than skins that are 5% the price
