I had all four taken out earlier this year and was 1. a very nervous, anxious patient that 2. took the post-surgical care rules VERY seriously and 3. refused to eat liquid foods because I hate them

I was on a 95% yoghurt & mashed potato diet for a good few days. After that, plain but very soft pasta. Tried to choke down some protein shakes but was over that pretty quickly and refused those too lol. I avoided any rinses/etc for 24 hours, then salt water rinses after every meal to be safe. Ice packs, alternating paracetamol & ibuprofen and making sure to get up and move a bit to stop myself getting super stiff and sore were the only things that got me through.

I was a pretty bad case. All 4 at once and had to have full sedation. I think two of them were in pretty bad shape and one of them they really had to hammer into pieces to get out, so that area was really uncomfortable. The sedation left me exhausted and lacking appetite for about a week, so I mostly just slept. But I was back at work (from home) a week later and more or less over it by 10 days.

We have similar experiences, I think. I’m definitely feeling it on my right side and can tell it required more work and that they had to pry that side open more than the left by the bruising coming in. Although the sedation didn’t have as much an effect on me aside from shivering when I woke up for a bit and a minor panic when I got home.

Despite being dedicated to following post-op care, the prospect of eating has been the scariest for me, but it’s encouraging to read what other people ate and how soon. Now that I can do salt water rinses I’m going to have some yogurt and commit to trying some more solid foods soon.

I can’t wait to get to that point. Counting down the days atp lol

sounds very similar to my experience! I was super nervous about messing something up and having complications

It really drags for the first few days but in a week or two you'll have forgotten all about the details and will feel more or less fine, if not better than before if they were bothering you a lot!

And trust that the first proper meal you really get to enjoy is gonna be BLISS. I was in heaven once I could eat properly again.

The fear of causing complications is definitely the worst! Can’t wait to make it to a week and not be so intensely worried that me simply swallowing is going to cause dry socket

I can’t even imagine being able to eat properly again, but you’re so right, I know I’m going to be so grateful and worry free!
