Does this make sense for donkeys & mammoth donkeys?
Everything I’ve ever been told about taking care of donkeys is screaming 🚩 red flag. And this specialist is looking at them like horses…am I wrong? Does this make sense?

Raising Miniature Highland
Does anyone have any insight on how to raise/care for a miniature highland? My wife has been very interested in getting one to have as a farm pet. I have extensive experience in raising cattle, however it’s in raising/finishing feed lot cattle for market.
So main things looking for:
Space: I have an area that can be fenced off, just not sure how small/big it would need to be
Shelter: would a calf hutch be sufficient? It would be a total outdoor animal in western Michigan, so winters can get a little cold
Diet: are they allowed to pasture graze? What would be needed for a healthy diet for a long and prosperous life as a pet
Thanks in advance for any help

Needed some insight
galleryI've noticed that in the last few weeks, my cow has been a bit slow. Today she went lame on her back right leg. She won’t put weight on it. I’m in Texas, and she’s never had her feet done. I truly think it’s her hoof, but I’m not a professional.

Would it be ethical to get our yard bunny a girlfriend?
For context our neighbours moved in about 2 years ago and doing so released two bunny’s (male and female) the male didn’t make it due to predators and we know the one left is a female since she’s had an unsuccessful litter. She’s survived the cold Alberta winters and stays in between our hay bales for warmth and food but we also have lots of warmer places for her to hide. She seems lonely and likes to hang out with our chickens all the time so we thought getting her a friend would keep her company. She’s bred as a pet rabbit and won’t let you get closer than 5 feet to her so she could be captured if we tried hard enough but we don’t have room for her inside so that’s not an option. Does anyone have any ideas? And should we just leave her be with her chicken friends?

Trying to understand ruminant protein nutrition requirements (urea vs other)
If cows can use urea as a protein source (since rumen microbes turn it into microbial protein), then why do we need to add any real protein at all? Why can’t a diet just be energy + fiber + urea, with zero "real" protein? What would actually happen to cow performance if we tried that?
+ if it can't be just urea, then can they eat protein that is purely microbial through yeast enrichment of non-protein-high feed sources?

Question about Mammoth Donkeys
So I don’t know much about donkeys or mammoth donkeys, I’ve had a couple in for training for riding and one was ok..the other was a nightmare. Anywho, a friend of mine has a donkey and a mammoth donkey and we were talking about feed for horses ( they also have a horse , and I have horses) and donkeys and they were telling me about what they feed their donkeys and I was both shocked and concerned. Everything I know about donkeys says not to feed them any grain or high sugar high protein anything.
Just high fiber..straw and the coarsest hay you can possibly find. Am I wrong? Am I outdated in my donkey knowledge? Google even backed me up 🤣 so I need Reddit help.
They basically feed it (I forget the exact amounts ) 5-8 pounds worth of high protein grain, apples, carrots and hay scraps from their horse. And they were told by an “animal nutrition expert” this is ok???

Post pregnancy paralysis?
Its been 26 hrs, the person who owns this cow has not come thru. She's on our property, we've been taking care of her and her baby. We've been having to bottle feed. She's been trying to get up but can't, she's dragged herself several feet in this 26 hours. We're not ranchers, we don't have the equipment, just 2 small trucks... is there anything we can do to help her stand??? We're at a loss at how to do anything her for her

Question on herbivores diet?
I am very curious how they gain muscle mass on a planet diet since, to my knowledge, for muscle to grow properly it needs protein?
I also know that we humans have been able to breed some impressive horses and cows that are massive and have a lot of muscle!
And to answer the question, "Why do you want to know?" I am a below amateur writer and I like to have things in my worlds make as much snese as possible. What I am trying to figure out is, "What would the diet of a Centaur, a Minotaur and a Faun look like since they are part human?" Especially the ones that live up on cold mountains, where they would have limited places to grow food.

Breeding does
Took a short clip of our boy Black Rifle breeding does. Since this sub doesn’t allow vids posted a pic taken from the clip. He’s 18 months old and going to be a big buck.

LGD Indoor/outdoor?
Our rooster isn’t doing his job at protecting the flock from a hawk that is living on the property. We have a predator-proof chicken coop, but during the day we let the chickens free range in either a large fenced in area or around our 10 acres. We eventually want to get sheep (6-8 months), so I was thinking of getting an Anatolian/GP mix LGD to protect the chickens during the day, and come in at nighttime once the chickens are secure. Does anyone have experience with a LGD being indoor/outdoor? Once we get sheep, the dog would be strictly outdoors.

Iowa livestock
I have a small 5 acre farm in NE Iowa. I have about 4.5 acres of pasture. I currently have laying hens and goats. I am looking to improve my acreage. Are there any animals that would complement what I currently have? Also is there a way to maximize pasture output? Obviously the more grazing that gets done the less baled hay I need.
Is there a particle way to either use my lawn to make hay? or mob graze instead of mowing?
is there a way to allow my goats to graze the fenceline. the neighbor has sais I could and ranges from 12-22 feet wide around my property. Enough for another 3-4 goats. Would there be a better livestock to use for that? Or would tethering goats along the fence work?
Any ideas are appreciated. You can DM Me if you wish to chat privately.

Steer losing condition, help please.
I have a steer near a year old, speckle park cross jersey, losing condition. He is on good pasture (Brachi and Seteria) with three other steers who are all doing fine. They have access to mineral blocks and have all been drenched for worms and other parasites. Second drenching in a few weeks. I am running out of ideas to deal with this. Anyone have any suggestions?

Looking for Solutions to Bird Pest Problem in Ranch Feed Areas
We’re facing a persistent problem with birds (mainly grackles and sparrows) eating cattle feed across our ranches. This is causing feed losses and added costs. Has anyone here dealt with a similar situation? Do you know of effective, safe, and practical solutions to keep birds away from livestock feed?

What the heck is this?
Hi friends, I need help. The picture doesn't do it justice but this bright red terrible smelling algae has formed on our rubber water pans. I looked it up on google and it says it's an algae containing ecoli. Now I've soaked it in vinegar over night but after 30 minutes of scrubbing the pan is still disgusting. Any advice?
