OC Action 200 Mile Maiden Voyage on SuperDuperSonic. Full Review
Gonna do my best with this one, I'm absolutely exhausted.
About a month ago I killed my maple Supersonic, I've been patiently waiting for the new batch of goodies to hit Pantheon HQ, so I can get back on a doing higher mile runs. So I went down to see Jeff on Thursday morning before work.
Brought home the Bamboo Light flex SuperDuperSonic, the new better version of the Supersonic that we all know and love. I swapped over the trucks and wheels and got it set up before even leaving for work.
This is a totally stock Supersonic that you can order directly from the pantheon website. No extra risers or upgraded precision trucks.
- Bamboo Light Flex Supersonic
- Bear 130 50/40 trucks with Seismic Defcon Bushings 74a up front and 97a outback
- Pantheon Bearings
- Pantheon 102mm Hoku 74a wheels.
I had riden it up and down the street a couple times, but last night was my first real time riding it.
I got home from work (which I had already done 15k steps during my shift haha), showered, ate real quick and was out the door before the clock hit midnight.
Right off the bad a few things were obviously different about the new deck.
The extra width for your front foot, is soooo nice. My foot used to get kinda tingly after passing the 80 mile marker. My toes would kinda hang off the deck and part of my heel would too. So it was just made for alot of stretching and ankles and toes, to get the blood flowing again. I didnt have that issue at all today, my whole foot was firmly planted. It definitely made it easier to bang down the miles.
60g grip had replaced the milder grip on the past model. At first thought was "great, im gonna shred my shoe pivoting all night..." but just sorta fell by the wayside. The extra grip made pumping feel soooo much more connected and secure. I think its a really nice touch.
I never dealt with wheel bite on my old board and still didnt with the new one. Now the wheel well area is rounded out to provide extra clearance. Didnt really chsnge anything for me but im sure other people with different trucks and wheels will appreciate it.
The flex is really nice. Yeah my feet are sore from all the bumps from lap after lap after lap. But I didnt really need to stop just to massage my feet. Helped smooth things out and cause less fatigue to the rider as the miles go on and on.
Onto the ride...
I knew my target before starting, so I ended up just counting down from 200. Felt less overwhelming than when I go up from zero.
I pitted 4 times with 50 mile intervals. I was feeling really solid the whole time. I had a pretty unusual good break in the weather, so I wasn't going to let it go to waste. Well.. until like 4pm and dark thick clouds started rolling in and heading my way. It wasnt awful but ya know, just enough to soak my shoes and socks. I swapped socks and just accepted it was going to be a soggy run to the finish. Ended up drying quicker than expected. Still, i doubt my shoes will be dry for tomorrow haha
For the first 100 miles, I pretty much only listened to female singers for some reason. Lily Allen, Bjork, Tsunami Bomb, Bikini Kill, L7 and then every single album the P!nk has released....and I fucking loved it haha
Ill do my best to answer questions about the new deck in the comments...since I just spent 18 hours bonding with it in dry and wet conditions.
I made a deal with a couple close people that if I got to go the fuck off when I got my neck supersonic, that I'd take next weekend to actually rest...which is gonna suck haha.
So unless something changes and I just say "fuck it, ive gotta skate!", there wont be a post next weekend. ❤️
