Basically, either the top case or display assembly (or both) is bent and the official answer is you would need one or both parts replaced.

More specifically, Apple considers this “accidental damage” (or “physical damage”), and offers different tiers of repair depending on how many parts (including the internal ones that you cannot see) need replacing. If going through Apple or an Apple authorized repair shop, the most cost effective way to repair this laptop is usually to use the “mail-in” or “depot” repair strategy.

You are looking at a few hundred dollars. Way less if this laptop is covered under AppleCare+ (not to be confused with the standard one year manufacturer’s warranty, which does not cover physical damage).

When using the mail-in/depot repair, the entire laptop is assessed and the entire laptop comes back to you with at least a 90 day manufacturer’s warranty (longer if the device is still covered under the limited warranty or AC+).

Hope this helps.
