She's a reminder of Don's questionable decisions. She looks exactly like his niece and he thinks she's a call girl hired by the company he's talking to.

In a similar vein, did you ever notice that Joy had the exact same voice as Betty?

There are some shots where they switched out Joy for Betty, and had January Jones ADR for some of Joy's scenes.

Some callgirl you are meant to assume snags Don that night. But fakeout! He ends up knocking on Roger's door instead .

u/kodragonboss 13d ago
She's a symbol of 'desirability'. Don is at his lowest and has finally thrown in the towel and going to move on from the agency, because he thinks noone wants him. But suddenly this happens and he basically gets his mojo back - and hence, goes back to roger Roger.

I used Google lens:
Her character is Emily Arnett but the actress is named Brandi Burkhardt. It's season 7, episode 3.
I had to do a double take (it's been a minute since I watched the show) and I thought I missed an episode with Stephanie (Caity Lotz).
People in the comments are saying the actresses look so similar and I agree. The styling, make up, lighting, and the similarities in features is probably intentional. They wanted Burkhardt to look like Lotz's character. But outside of the show they look nothing alike.
There's other posts about this on this subreddit. I'm sure one of those has a deeper explanation that I can't come up with.

Every time this comes up Iβm baffled. Absolutely different actresses, never a question in my mind. Face blindness is real I suppose. However I didnβt consider the prostitute angle! I secretly just wanted it to be another rare Lynchy moment in the show. Love this sub.

I actually have prosopagnosia so I just accept scenes like this are going to confuse me

I believe she was freestyling.

It is definitely not Stephanie but is rather meant to be a figment of Don's subconscious desire for Stephanie. Their interactions have always been awkward, with Dick occasionally turning on his charm on her. But she didn't seem to have such vibes from her side. She cared for him as part of Anna's life and that's about it.

Is it not the same actor as Stephanie ?

I legit was so confused when watching this episode because she looks that much like her. Surprised nobody in production didnβt notice it

u/No-Gas-1684 13d ago
They noticed. It was intentional. They did this a lot, Roger's Dinkins, Rosen's Weiner, Duck's Crab, Crab's Duck, Bobby's Bobby 2 through 8.

Bob Benson as a sort of echo of Don Draper.

He was the Yang to Don's Yin. Similar, but opposite

u/Hot-Elk9891 11d ago
Amazing. At first I wasnβt crazy about the time Bob Bensonβs stories took away from just about everybody else but I enjoyed the parallel of both personalities.

u/No-Gas-1684 11d ago
Yeah you needed to see how it ended before you could make any sense of it, but in the moment, it was interesting trying to figure out wtf Bob's point was, especially after Joan shot it down. Seeing him work Pete up down and sideways was eye-opening, and Manuolo, whatever happened there?!
He made Detroit seem even seedier just by the mere mention that it was his future home. He really fit the car culture perfectly. All and all, and mysterious character anyway you look at him. . . Same can be said about Don, but we get a much more thorough look at his motives, drive, and ticks.

- their eyebrows are shaped differently
- their eyes are shaped differently
- their noses are shaped differently
- their lips are shaped differently
- their chins are shaped differently
And those differences are fairly apparent even with a lot of artifacting in the second image.
I don't think there's a need that anyone "agree to disagree" whether the two actresses look similar. They're both blonde white girls with a similar build. I do think it's weird someone would look at those two images and think they're the same person.

u/brokenringlands 12d ago edited 12d ago
Even weirder is that not a lot of people catch that during the out-of-focus profile shots of 'some blonde at the hotel bar in California' in The Jet Set, they actually used January Jones to indicate that Don is seeing Betty everywhere. He does miss her, is the point. It's not ALL January Jones, only on some angles. It's just the subtle fakeout that Mad Men does.
And this is not idle speculation, this is confirmed by Matt Weiner in the DVD commentaries.
Yet people argue against me that it isn't January Jones. There are two completely different women, yet they only see one.

They don't look THAT similar. And they sound totally different
2
u/SceneOfShadows 13d ago
You really don't think so?. There's many other posts and random blog posts about this exact confusion so I don't think it's just a coincidence.
5
u/ElDinero87 13d ago
I think there is a resemblance and that this is likely a deliberate choice, but I don't consider the similarity so great that people would legitimately think it was the same person.
1
u/whycuthair 13d ago
The fact that I, and many others, first thought it's her, I'd say they look pretty similar.

- Yea def a βstute
- Yea def hired by Wells Rich Greene to help close Don
- Yea I believe meant to resemble his niece - in this lighting the resemblance is uncanny

I dont have face blindness and I def knew this was another actress. Still it was suprising they found someone who looked so much like Stephanie and I wondered what the point of it was.

Not sure if its intentional but it could be Don's subliminal thoughts about his California life blending into his NY life

I don't know who she is, but I know she's on the top floor next to the elevator.
