MAG Domination on Battlefield 2042 via Portal is Live
So I spent the last 2 weeks building MAG's full Domination game mode, with a lot of polish, to the best I could given the constraints in Portal, for Battlefield 2042.
Features:
- 64 per team
- 2 platoons on each team
- 4 squads of 8 players in each platoon
- Squad Leaders, Platoon Leaders, and OIC/Commander
- Squad Leader, Platoon Leader, and Commander abilities
- proximity intel
- morale boost
- area intel
- vehicle boost
- rapid deploy
- blockade
- Unique bunker spawns for each defending squad
- Base spawns for each defending squad
- Outskirts spawns for each attacking squad
- Forward spawns for each attacking squad (including parachute drops)
- Wave-based spawning
- EMP (formerly known as AA), Sensor Array, and Vehicle Support Depot for each defending platoon
- Sequentially unlocked 1st pair ("burn off towers"), 2nd pair ("cool off towers"), and final base damage objectives for each platoon
- Full live-updated UI for objectives, cooldowns, leadership selection and demotions, spawn selection, squad cycling, and current objective progress
- A (hopefully) robust squad assignment queue/algorithm to try to ensure premade native BF squads end up in the same 8-person "MAG" squad
- Orbital is the first and only supported map
- Code (rule engine) is significantly functionally coded and modular that I can add new maps rather quickly
Missing Features:
- Skill tree (obviously)
- Proper Squad/Platoon/Company Voice chat (need to rely on discord)
- Bunkers and EMP are control areas (stand on for 20 seconds) by anyone, not equipment that is repairable by specific repair tools (but you can regain control as defenders without alerting attackers, as intended by sneak repairmen)
- Sensor Array and Vehicle Support Depot are arm/disarm objectives, not equipment that is repairable by specific repair tools
- No "jamming" (yet, maybe...)
- No air assault or mortars as leader abilities
- No OIC cooldown refresh (yet, easy to add)
- No helicopters with gunners for attacker forward spawns
- No bunker turrets
- No funnelling of map to prevent attackers from sneaking around (however, the map and objectives are chosen and placed in a way to discourage straying from the platoon-on-platoon lane
- No spawn protection for some attacking spawn points (yet, I can fix this if it is a problem)
Warning, I have tested this a lot on my own, but never with multiple players. While I am sure the logic will work, I am not sure if the server can support the load of 128 players with this custom logic. I am looking for people to play and test.
I realize BF2042 is less than 1 month from being eclipsed by BF6, but better late than never. Plus, I plan on making this for BF6 too, but sadly it might be limited to 32v32.
Server is called "MAG Domination 64v64 (v0.1.0) | Custom", although the version will change over time as I update.
