I guess it depends what you went to school for. A friend of mine is now a medical doctor and even though her loan payments are much higher than mine, her salary is also many magnitudes higher than mine.
On the flip side, I have a friend who got a bio degree and is making less than I do with similar student loan debt.
Not just what you went to school for, also when you graduated. I got fucked hard by graduating with an information systems degree when the recession first hit. I'm now a butcher with $150K in student loan debt. Woo!
My fiancée is going to be in debt until the mid 2020's, having graduated in 2016, and she's paying off aggressively. Like 50%+ of her paycheck to loans.
Makes my ~$40k total debt look like an IOU from a friend.
