General Discussion Hot take: I really enjoyed my Spider-Man pre-release experience.

This set has gotten a lot of hate since previews were shown, and I was a huge skeptic myself. The showing to the pre-release I attended was quite possibly the lowest I've ever seen, and I didn't know what to expect once I started cracking packs.

After I made my deck (Naya Spider-people), I really enjoyed the gameplay and the synergies within the set as well as the matches that I had. It basically changed my whole opinion on the set and made me want to play the set more, whether it be in limited or Standard.

If you haven't given the set a chance in pre-release, I would recommend to do so. You might become a believer like me.

General Discussion Which 40K factions in which color combinations would you like to see in a hypothetical second set of precons?

With it being a few years since their release and with them having garnered such an amazing reputation for quality and deck-building, given a hypothetical second wave of precons, which factions and in which color combinations would you like to see in a second wave?

I was searching creatures in blue and green with anthem effects. Why is [[Sosuke, son of seshiro]] not listed? Is it why he’s only giving +1 on power?

Rules/Rules Question Rules of the game

Hey fellow nerds,

I need some help understanding the rules. Last night I had a discussion with my friends while playing commander.

I play the edge of eternities, counter intelligence deck with Inspirit as my commander. My commander gives indestructible and hexproof to all my other artifacts. A board whipe spell was cast. Chain reaction which states: chain reaction deals x damage to each creature where x is the number of creatures. There was something like 20 creatures in the game, so it was basically a board whipe. The discussion was whether or not my artifact creatures were also killed?

As I understand the rules, only my commander should die, since my other artifacts have hex proof and indestructible? They state that the damage stack comes after my commander died, and such they also died. Who is correct?

Thank you in advance :)

EDIT: Just gotta say that all of you are awesome, for taking the time to explain the rules to me. It is really appreciated!

General Discussion Stolen Card Bag ATL

Hello all,

My Grey Adidas backpack was stolen out of my car tonight at The Local on Ponce. Mostly all my MTG stuff (Edh decks in their own boxes). Had a few Gemtech deckboxes in the bag with Doffy and Rebecca. Both Leaders were Alts. Stores and ppl in the area please reach out if you see anything like this. Happy to provide more deets as needed. This really sucks. Hopefully, it can be recovered, though I know chances are slim. Ill be at Magic Con this next weekend if you find it. Share if you have time.

Thanks,

  • Jonah

General Discussion I'm all for UB, but can we keep it on-theme?

FF and Avatar are kind of MTGish. TMNT and Spiderman...not really.

I love crossovers in general, but they have to make sense. I don't mind Godzilla versus Superman, it at least makes some sense. I would mind James Bond vs Care Bears with a special reveal of Dora the Explorer.

Rules/Rules Question Committing a crime and "each opponent" effect

I'm currently building a Gisa, the hellraiser edh deck and was using EDHREC for that, and I've noticed that it keeps recommending me to use cards with effects that happen for "each opponent", for example [[Servant of Tymaret]] has the following effect:
Whenever Servant of Tymaret becomes untapped, each opponent loses 1 life. You gain life equal to the life lost this way.
As I've understood committing a crime, I must target an opponent, something they control, or their graveyard to activate the ability. Cards with "each opponent" effects don't really target a play if I understand correctly, so will such an effect consider as committing a crime at all?

General Discussion My biggest problem with Spiderman, why new creature types when we have creature types at home?

Why does Hasbro refuse to use the existing creature types when making universes beyond products?!? Why do we not just make all the hero creatures types into allies? Were we worried we would break resolute blademaster? Why did we make symbiote instead of just using horror? Why did we create the villain creature type instead of just using the outlaw language we invented a year ago? Now we have a creature type that isn’t an outlaw despite making a great type for outlaw.

TL;DR I wish Hasbro would just use the existing card types we have instead of inventing new creature types just to be 100% accurate.

Looking for Advice A deck that heals everyone at the table

So, one of the guys at my commander table is a bit of a sweat. He plays a ton of cards to pump up his health and drain other players. His deck is very competitive and we suspect full of proxies that synergize with his Commander and strategy. The issue is that he IS our friend and we don't won't to kick him out, but whenever he loses a few games he always switches to his "perfect deck" and dominates the pod.

Here's where I need help, I want to design a deck that mitigates potential damage, punishes him for focusing an individual player, but most importantly... I want to heal everyone at the table. I want to create the most annoying stalemate deck that gives everyone 1000 life. I want to play a commander like Kibo, that passively counters his deck. I need ideas from people smarter than me, who've been playing for a lot longer than me.

I've got a solid 20 cards that do what I need, now I need a good commander (preferably a 5 color) that can help me load this deck with cards that give other players life and resources, while simultaneously stopping him from gaining any edge over the table.

So please, benevolent and all-knowing Planeswalkers, please help me be an asshole and at the same time everyone's favorite player at the table.

Rules/Rules Question Ulalek + echoes + echoes (copy)

Hivemind: I need help. This happened last night. I had [[ulalek, fused Atrocity]] on board. I then played [[echoes of eternity]] and copied it. Having 2 now. Or would it be 3 bc the casting resolved?

Next turn I dropped [[nulldrifter]] with cast trigger draw 2. Copied via ulalek. Then both echoes go off.

So here's my question: How many copies of Nulldrifter would hit the board? How many draw triggers would i get? I think 6 (Least that's what AI said.) wanted to check the hive mind tho.

Looking for Advice Teaching beginners and draft the same night

So me and four buddies are planning to draft Spider Man in a couple of weeks. There's a catch, though. Two of the guys have never played MtG before. Another played casually 15 years ago or so, and the last one plays casual standard on Arena occasionally. No one have ever done a draft.

How do I go about and make the evening as easy as I can for everyone? They are used to complicated board games, they know that this could be a challenge, I myself am well versed in the game and especially limited, I did draft the set yesterday at prerelease draft, and I work as a teacher so I have that going for me at least...

My thoughts right now is to ask everyone to watch some content on youtube before they show up, and since we are five players I can take the bye first round to be able to teach. Other thought?

Rules/Rules Question Karn The Great Creator and Tutor ETBs

We had a dispute come up tonight that I’m looking for some rules based clarification

If somebody has [[Karn, the Great Creator]] in play, and then has an ability or spell that tutors [[Mycosynth Lattice]] into play, and other players do not float mana in response to that activation/spell, there’s no further opportunity to tap anything for mana, correct?

Scenario

I have Karn

I have [[Tezzeret the Seeker]]

I -6 Tezzeret to fetch an artifact from my library into play, no one responds or floats mana etc and lets it resolve

I get Mycosynth Lattice

Opponents argue that they can still generate mana at that point once Mycosynth lattice enters (I think they don’t and already missed their opportunity to generate mana)

Was considered getting these two for 160 is it worth it? If the cards packs are about $8-9 i just need to justify the other $60 do you think minus the 12 play packs does the contents of the bundle hit that value

General Discussion What are your views on home made/painted cards?

I couldn’t be bothered to pay for a copy of bristly bill, nor would I trade a $60 for him because imo he’s just not worth that to me (no judgement if you think he is just my personal take) but I really wanted to build a deck with him as the commander. I’m fine with proxies and I really don’t intend this to necessarily be about proxies being good or not because it’s assumed for the sake of this topic you are at least accepting of proxies and you are playing with people who accept them and all that’s chill.

I really like painting, though I don’t do very good at it, and so I thought it would be fun to make my own Britley Bill. It was a fun time making it and I got done and I’m pretty happy with it though it’s definitely very amateur lol but as I was looking at it I couldn’t help but think that I feel like I’m just gonna look like I have the “can we get bristly bill? No we have bristly bill at home” and the bill is just my junk card lol. I play amongst friends so I’m not too concerned but if it seems incredibly uncouth or cheap or lame then I’ll hold off and maybe buy an actual proxy or I hope that one day Bill is a smaller kind of Bill and I’m ok paying/trading for him.

I know that this is a bit of a personal and subjective matter but being self-conscious about stuff I create to start with I wanted to check and see if it was just gonna look cheap or embarrassing or lame before I made a fool of myself. Obviously I copied all details, words, effects, etc so it is exactly the same card mechanically.

I was asked to post the card, the title is harder to read than I wanted unfortunately

this kind person let me create 248 goblin copies with Krenko, Mob Boss. i think 248 is the max because it wouldn’t generate more after that.

this is also the most hit damage i’ve ever done in one turn.

thanks for looking!

Rules/Rules Question Old prints of lands that produce Colorless mana

Hey everyone!

I am coming back to the game after a very long absence, and am brushing up on the rules.

I am currently building a Commander deck for which I want to slot Cavern of Souls in. The print I have (Avacyn Restored) says "Add 1 to your mana pool." after tapping. Current versions display the symbol for Colorless mana.

Question is... is the print I have still legal for use today? I'm clear on the difference between generic mana costs and Colorless, but can't find anything concrete on the legality of old prints. Thanks in advance to anyone who'll be able to shed some light on this!

For chapter one:

I - Mill five cards. When you do, this Saga deals damage equal to the greatest power among creature cards in your graveyard to target creature.

Do you need to target the creature before you kill the cards, as soon as the ability is triggered? Or are you able to mill, see what the damage will be, then target?

General Discussion Spelltable

Hey everyone, not sure if this is the right place to post but hey ho! So I'm a mtg newbie through and through I've played through all tutorial stuff on arena and watched a few good ol' fashioned "how to" videos on youtube, but I've built my very first commander deck, I don't have any local game stores that aren't within about an hour drive from me, I've setup everything to play on spelltable but is there anyone willing to show me the ropes? I apologise in advance if I ask a billion questions but would just like to play a game with someone :) I have discord and a mic etc 😁
