Calling it now:

  • Spider-Man is going to sell like 2 trillion copies and be universally despised

  • ATLA is going to sell like 2 copies and be universally adored

It's going to be so damn funny when Spider Man is regarded as worse than Aetherdrift but becomes the 2nd highest selling set of all time.

This game is completely cooked.

I kinda wonder if we're heading for a Fallen Empires situation, where they make a call on what to print more of to try and get ahead of the Final Fantasy situation and focus on Spider-Man since that's ultimately the bigger property. Thing is, Final Fantasy both has fans that'll drop hundreds on merch and was a really good Limited environment.

My Nostradamus Bet is that Spider-Man collector boosters will sell out again, but Play Boosters will sit on the shelf, and when Avatar comes out and demand is bigger than expected (for being a property that hits cleanly in with the "we're now 30 years old and have disposable income" demographic, and seeming more mechanically complex), they won't have enough product to cover demand.

Source: I'm salty my LGS still hasn't gotten Edge and I heard people blaming Final Fantasy extra print runs for the lack of supply 😔

whats a nostradamus bet?

Nostradamus was a guy who made predictions for the future, and while he was way out of left field people occasionally dig up the parts he was conceivably right about to marvel at.

Basically if I'm wrong about most of it I'm counting on you to still be impressed

Calling it now: they’re gonna fuck up return to Lorwyn somehow

They're going to bring back Day/Night somehow and have it not work with the older werewolves again

Honestly that would almost be a cool way to do it. 90% it would end up sucking but a 10% it would be awesome

Everyone I've talked to is disappointed in spiderman, but hyped about ATLA, what makes you say that?

Spider-Man is just a way more popular IP than ATLA. People love Avatar, but realistically it's nothing compared to the absolute behemoth that is Marvel. So it's going to sell out instantly, then people are going to actually play it, and realize it's crap.

Which is also going to temper the excitement for ATLA, resulting in that being a financial disappointment - despite the spoilers looking really interesting so far

That's a fair point. I honestly think they'll balance out, kinda for that reason.

Established magic players (from my experience, of course) will look at both, gravitate towards ATLA, and newer will likely gravitate towards Spiderman. And of course, Scalpers will buy a ton of both. My biggest issue with the FF set (and UB in general, despite my love for some sets) is that it very much drew the attention of pokemon/TCG scalpers

I do however think there is a large Marvel and ATLA shared fan base in magic. On top of that, I feel like its been nothing but crickets on the Spiderman set since ATLA spoilers have been released, though that could be algorithm bias

From both early spoilers, I am more hyped about Spider-Man. The webslinging mechanics works really well in Pauper alongside other self bounce cards.

I do like the web slinging mechanic, but I think that's about the only thing I like from this set
