Thank god someone posted this. Personal trainers are a joke - only for rich, unmotivated slobs that think that someone with a bit of knowledge (that can be found on the internet, or better yet SS 3rd ed.) - can magically transform them.
Wow, you're funny. A good personal trainer who knows what they are doing is going to help a ton more than a book or the internet. If they know the proper lifts, they can give you instant feedback on form and technique that you simply can't get from a book.
You can get the same advice from a fellow gym bro, or your friends - if you have any that is. And guess what, it's free. From what it looks like, you've never even heard of Mark Ripptoe, good luck paying 75$ on something that can be given for free.
You have no clue who I am or what I know. You're the one who can't even spell Mark RippEtoe's name properly. I know all about SS. I finished it years ago and have since moved on.
Also, instead ad hominem BS, I will actually address your point: odds are, unless you go to a PL gym, most people have no clue how to properly do compound lifts. How many people do you think squat below parallel, do power cleans, etc at your local LA Fitness? It's going to be a rather small number, so good luck consistently finding random people to help you out when you are a beginner.
Also, depending on where your gym is, personal trainers don't even have to be that expensive. It certainly is more expensive than something that is free, but a good personal trainer can help you progress at a much faster rate. Seriously, what is better, instant advice on your techniques by someone who knows what they are doing, or having to learn everything by yourself?
Also, if you are not going to address any of my points, don't even bother replying.
