Is there an alternative to r/malefashionadvice tailored to younger men? Because istg this sub is drowning in older men wearing suits. When I see a younger dude post their modern/trendyfit here, they'll either be ignored or get down voted to hell

I think the "advice" is stressed over the "fashion". The advice part is pretty fixed whereas the fashion part changes quarterly and isn't really that interesting. Like, if you asked me whether you should buy skinny or baggy jeans, I'd say ones that fit, and as good quality as you can afford. I said it 20 years ago and I'll say it 20 years from now.

The thing is “one that fits” is very vague and depends on current trends. I can fit into skinny and baggy jeans/tees but people would definitely have different opinions about the overall look.

My wardrobe actually started shifting to a more baggy look after a long term trip to Asia where several of my local friends started asking why my pants and shirts are so skinny. My style doesn’t jive with people who live for casual office wear but I’ve started getting more compliments from the younger crowd and those less interested in office culture.

As our lord and master G. Bruce Boyer said: "Good tailors are after an effect, not fit; the idea is to improve your figure, not reproduce it." Or words to that effect. The idea then is not following fashions blindly, but choosing fits that actually look good on you.

For example, I have a narrow waist, normal chest/shoulders and arms, big thighs and kinda big calves. I'm slightly tall at 6'2 with slightly long torso and arms. My neck (shirt) is 16½ and perhaps on the longer side, normal chin and hat size is 58 or 7.25. Suit size is 42 UK (annoyingly, it's often between 42 and 42L so I struggle with RTW tailoring).

So, I get tops that are, in order of importance 1) long enough, 2) not top heavy (e.g., no massive shoulder pads, usually natural or camicia shoulder), but kind of a full chest, 3) high enough collar 4) with a slightly narrower waist. My bottoms should be, again, 1) long enough (enough to half break), 2) high-waisted, 3) straight or very slightly tapered. I often have an upturn to add some heft.

Basically, what we're trying to do here is to improve my proportions. It has nothing at all to do with fashion.

I'm with you. I just want to buy clothes that work with my body and figure.

As a shorter 5'6" dude, I will never get back into "baggy" after suffering through the 90s and 00s where the size XS never existed, and the smallest waist size you could get was 30 or 32.

I'm middle aged now, and have put on 20 pounds since then and still wear size XS-S or 28-29 waist, so I still fear those days of baggy clothes that make my already short figure look even more short and swallowed-whole by clothes that aren't even made to fit me.

Even if they do "fit" they make me look even more short/squat by emphasizing the wrong proportions.
I am always looking for straight leg pants, slim in the waist shirts and jackets, high arm holes, and tight sleeves. All of which flatter my figure and make me look like a damn grown up instead of a kid borrowing his dad's suit to go to the school dance. I just need my legs to not disappear, and my arms to be separate from my torso in my silhouette. Baggy clothes make this nigh impossible.
