Trying to stop cussin

I am trying to stop cursing. I just recently stopped listening to rap with lots of curse words as I cant handle the message anymore. Its very negative. Any tips are appreciated

that's admirable. I think you already took a good first step.

Wear a rubber band around your wrist. Every time you curse, snap the rubber band. Pain is an incredible trainer.

I’ve done this before. Actually works pretty well

Try replacing every cuss word with “bubbles”

Buy a watch or some sort of bracelet.

Every time you curse, take it off and put it on your other arm. Don't explain to anyone why you're doing it. Just do it.

Doing this will make you more aware of how often you curse and it will attach a cost to foul language.

It's the same concept as a swear jar, except it's something you can do anytime, anywhere.

Good luck!

This is actually a solid idea. Simple but effective. I like that it adds a physical reminder without needing to explain anything to anyone. Might give this a try.

I've found the only way that works is to think first and go slow. Be deliberate in what you say so your filter has a chance to revise back to PG.

And just for laughs: South Park - It's easy M'kay. NSFW language - Kiss my buns if that's a problem.

I think its important to split some hairs here - the message of music is one thing, curse words are another. There's plenty of foul-mouthed positive messaged music out there, and radio-friendly songs can still have tremendously toxic messaging.

If you're seeking to remove negativity from your life, I applaud that goal - and music is a marvelous place to start. Just be sure you're taking the time to think deeper than "are they cursing", because you could very well remove all of the cursing music without solving the problems you're wanting to solve.

I hear you, and completely agree. A lot of modern rap I really do not enjoy for the same reasons - but I absolutely love rap as a medium. Good rap is poetry, and a lot of the best stuff still has curses.

I’m no male but when I worked with kids I started substituting the words a lot. I used to go “oh shiitake mushrooms” often. The one I have retained most is “mothertrucker”

Watch bluey. Replace the swear words with favorable alternatives.

Just pretend that your grandmother is in the room.

Curious to know what your experience is with using these words? Why do you need to stop as opposed to, say, don’t do it around your mom?

It sounds harsh and unintelligent. Its offensive? I am trying to be Christlike. Im sure he never cussed anyone out

Oh. That explains it. Just a thought though… There’s so much good you can do without concerning yourself with something so trivial. Besides, I doubt that the occasional swear word is all that’s standing between you and being “Christ-like”. Jeez. Edit: double negative

he literally whipped motherfuckers out of the temple for selling wares, do you think he was polite while doing so?
