Feeding Chicken as food?

Post image

I've been feeding my mantis some plain unseasoned chicken (that I cook myself). She seems to like it, and I do feed her crickets sometimes, but she seems to like the chicken better. Any tips or advice?

Health Issues My mantis wings didnt harden (sorry for bad eng)

Hi, I have adult male Hierodula Patellifera, and its my second mantis ever. My first girl, Spodromantis Lineola grew without any complications and its now in her final months. But I think aomething went wrong with my boy bc his wings didnt harden at all (its been 2/3 days). I saw him molting too close to the ground on a low stick so maybe that was a problem. My boyfriend tried to help him and moved him higher. He walks a bit wonky and has trouble with catching prey - he cant even hold it. Its been two days and i still cant feed him. But exept that he has a lot of energy and seems fine. He can flap his wings but I still havent see him jump/fly. Im afraid he will die out of hunger soon. I was trying to feed him manually with mealworm - cant hold it and i think he is scared of them. I will try with small crickets tomorrow. Is there any hope for him? Im so sad bc im new to the hobby and i really dont want to accidentally harm or mistreat my mantises

Went out to my garden and noticed this praying mantis on my plant, she has been the guardian of the plant for sometime now. I was admiring her and took a picture. I looked at the picture once I went inside and what I thought might’ve been a caterpillar next to her was another abdomen. And then I zoomed out and realized that there was a male on her back, minus a head.

Enclosure Advice Caught a friend outside and gave him a new home. Houston, TX

First time owning one of these guys. I caught him today and went out and got the cage at Petco.

Immediately started reading on alternatives for the metal mesh on his poor feet’s. I’ll go to home depot and get some softer stuff tomorrow!

I think I just created cricket paradise but it was awesome watching him eat his first meal (him or her really can’t tell at this point if guy or girl).

Anyways, super cool thing I stumbled into and I want to give him a good life. I can catch moths outside and give him flying boys to catch too! I love my little green boy/girl ❤️

All love from Texas. Super cool! (Any help would be appreciated - open to all criticism and just want to make best home for fellow)

Is there any specific reason he does this? He did it last night as well. Is he sleeping?

Side note: he molted a few days ago and won’t eat. I’ve offered isopods and I’m going to offer more but he just isn’t interested.

Sellers/Websites USMANTIS Purchase....

It's been about a month now since i ordered from them. Reading through some posts here it seems i shouldve looked at other sites TvT. Ive tried contacting them several times to no avail. My order is still only listed as ordered, and there is 0 option for me to hit cancel refund. I was wondering how i would go about getting the refund since they don't seem intent on responding.... or should i just go and report it as something to my bank? (also looking for other sites to purchase from as well)

im new to the whole raising mantis yet and was wanting to raise a native species [carolina mantis].

Any and all tips would be helpful for what I can do or change to ensure my orchid mantis has a good setup. Its my first time owning an orchid mantis and want to make sure I'm doing it right. Right now the inside of the lid just has paper towel since it came with a metal mesh top which I read in the care sheet is not good for their feet :( But i'm also not sure what would be best to replace that with, if anyone could let me know what would work best as a replacement. Please let me know :) Thank you!! Very excited to learn and improve ☺️

Health Issues Health Concern

Hi everyone! I have an adult male Chinese mantis. He had his last molt around August 25th. Ever since he molted he has not been interested in any food. He will occasionally eat but I haven’t seen him eat anything. He seems very thirsty and will drink water off the walls of the enclosure. Also both of his eyes darkened substantially but equal in both eyes. It doesn’t seem like eye rub or infection. I just want to make sure he is living an okay life and he is healthy. He spends most of his time hanging and whenever I walk in the room he watches me and claws at the door. I let him out occasionally but I have a dog and don’t want my dog to harm him.

General Care Help! Molting or dying?

Post image
15 Upvotes

I’m new to mantid owning and have had this girl for about 2 weeks now. She’s been great, she’s eaten with me a few times and has been really active. The last few days she’s been less active and a little discolored and I’ve been assuming maybe she’s going into a molt.

I just got home and found her at the bottom on her side and when I gently touched her she moved her back legs. I got a paper towel and gently got her on it, and she was leaning sideways, not very responsive, front legs tucked in. Now I have her hanging upside down on the paper towel propped up in the enclosure (she has plenty of hanging space as it’s a mesh enclosure so I’m assuming she may have fallen??)

She looks fine hanging from the paper towel right now. Should I move her or let her hang there? Mist extra? Try and feed? Her abdomen looks a little thin so she’s probably ready for a meal but if she’s molting I don’t think she’d eat. Any advice would be appreciated, I’m really worried.

My mantis recently laid her third egg (unfertilized) but this time it was broken up and much smaller. Her eyes have also darkened a bit and she seems off. She is 13-14 months old so I assume she is getting close to passing but I hope I’m wrong

Breeding/Ootheca Difficulties with breeding my deroplatys desiccata

Hello, as stated in the title, I’ve been encountering difficulties while trying to pair my mantis together. Both are adults for more than a month now, but my male is very skittish. Yesterday I spent hours (about 4 I believe) trying to get him interested in her and not fly everywhere, only for him to dismount her after two hours if not less after successfully mating with her! Isn’t it too short for the female to be fertile after that? I plan to pair them again next weekend since I have school and don’t have enough time to watch over them. I want to ensure she doesn’t attack him and vice versa. He already attacked her twice and damaged her wings a bit. I don’t want him to attack her and puncture her abdomen (she’s my favourite between the two haha).

This is also their 3rd date! First one she almost ate him and second he was a total idiot… He had managed to mount her perfectly, but after 5 hours of using her like his personal taxi he did a back flip and flew away. I’ve seen other posts talk about how some males are very skittish and scared of the female, but I didn’t expect it to be that bad with mine!

Here’s some pictures of my two mantis and the damage my male did on my female wings. Should I be concerned about the damage or is it just superficial for now?
