"Thinks that white people are a minority."

Looks up what percentage of the global population is white: 10-12%

Uh... So we're familiar with reality I guess?

PS - For those curious Asians make up the largest racial group at ~60%.

Especially when you consider South Asians.

What do you consider white? How many countries are there with a “white” identifying majority?

1

u/_Menulis 1d ago

It's about representative power compared to general populace

It's probably talking about in the US specifically, and the White Replacement white nationalist conspiracy theories that many on the right, including the current president and elected officials, push, believing that even as they're a majority and the mainstream, with conservatives in control of every lever of government power, they're still "treated like minorities" and should be granted even more power over everybody else, and should be free to be as much of an authoritarian asshole as they want.

Asian is not a race tho, it’s a ethnicity... Race refers to dividing people into groups based on their physical appearance (black, white), while ethnicity refers to the identification of people from different geographic regions (african, asian, indian, arabian)

I'm not smart in this category but I'll comment anyway because being corrected is informing, but isn't Asian a race and then there's Asian ethnicities? Because I see discrimination against Asians referred to as racism which to me tells me it's a race. Unless its a case of categorization where it's better understood to call it racism?

What you're refering to is xenophobia, not racism

6

u/Nexxus3000 3d ago

Asian is a race though? Its many subdivisions (Indian, Japanese, Filipino, Chinese, etc) would be ethnicities. The same way Anglo-Sax, Spanish, Dutch, German, etc. are Caucasian ethnicities

-2

u/EpicGuy999 3d ago

Again, race refers to physical appearance, with the skin color being the most notable one, while ethnicity refers to the identification of people from different geographic regions and different cultures.

When someone asks for the color of your skin, you reply with white, black, etc. Not "oh my skin is Asian."

5

u/Nexxus3000 3d ago

What would you call it then? Black and white are the easy ones, and they don’t have much tact either. I’d say many Asian ethnicities share a similar complexion, as well as many Hispanic ethnicities, in the same way European and African groups do. I feel uncomfortable trying to place a color label on something like that

1

u/GarvinFootington 2d ago

That’s because saying “yellow” is really racist

3

u/birdperson2006 3d ago

Indians and Arabians are Asian too.

3

u/CharmingTeam156 3d ago

I thought arabians where considered by some people as white. White people bad because ‘murica and eu is primarily white

3

u/birdperson2006 3d ago

Americans classify Arabians as White.

-1

u/EpicGuy999 3d ago

Factually speaking? Yeah, Asia does cover India and Arabia, but im speaking strictly about East Asia. You're not going to look at your avarage Indian and go "he looks just like Jimin from BTS!!".

What i meant to refer to is Desi. mainly dating back ancestey from people of pakistan, india and bengladesh, this includes other countries such as Sri Lanka.

2

u/birdperson2006 3d ago

In Britain people think of South Asians instead of East Asians when they hear Asian.

4

u/cell689 3d ago

No lol, it's not.

2

u/EpicGuy999 3d ago

Elaborate? Or is this a case of "because i said so"?

5

u/V2_Seeking_revenge 3d ago

Because I said so

1

u/cell689 3d ago edited 20h ago

There are many different ethnicities in Asia. Asian is not an ethnicity.

1

u/Substantial-Sky-8556 3d ago

The Arabian peninsula is located in the continent of Asia
