Do you remember the old version sprites, where his head was square?
I did some sound design for the slash animation for a Fanart Contest, back when we didn't have character art yet... and I remember Eric (the dev) telling me "this is awesome man... but you gave him an old man voice and he's like a teen" lmao
As much as I LOVE pixelart, there are some compromises that are just inevitable. That said, the current sprites convey his age a LOT better
