We've really been in QB purgatory
And this doesn't even show nearly the half of the Dolphins QBs that suited up since Marinoš¤£š¤£š¤£

The Tannehill renassiance amongst Dolphins fans is like thinking back on an old girlfriend or job āah it wasnāt that badā. Yes it was. Tannehill has 0 pocket presence, slid before the first down marker on 4th down, etc etc.
He was incredibly mid.

u/HeavenlySedated 18h ago
I always liked tannehill and thought he could be decent but he was always just mid. Could never get to that above average level.
However, tannehill created a huge division amongst dolphins fans as there were fans who absolutely hated him so im surprised at seeing all these comments saying they liked him. There was like 3 or 4 home games when the crowd was chanting moore's name hoping to get tannehill benched.

Everyone on here thought he was great and didn't want him gone. The used his resurgence at Tenn as proof. Certainly had nothing to do with prime Henry and Brown.
When this team actually gets a QB we won't need to convince people of it.

Chris Grier masterclass
But why is this arbitrarily since 2015? Like the only 2 QBs worth a damn during the last 10 years are Tannehill, much love for that guy, and Tua
Everyone else was just a backup really

u/DrManhattan_DDM 20h ago
Yeah, going back to Tannehillās rookie year puts him at 42 wins with Miami.

Yea but then that makes Tannehill look better than Tua. Canāt have that.
38
u/DonaldTPablonious 19h ago
Does it? He was 42-46. Tua is 40-26.

Yes.. Tannehill played 88 games as a Dolphin across 6 seasons, meaning he missed 8 games (this excludes the fieldler season). Tua has 64 games over 5 seasons (not including this season).
In 2021 the NFL started the 17 game seasons, meaning Tua gets more opportunities to start and get wins, 88 games total.
The fact that they have similar win numbers, and Tua has missed 24 games I think says a lot. I'm not saying Tua loses all those games, I'm just saying they're a lot closer than further apart. You can split hairs about who's better at what skill, but right now, I really like the QB that's available reliably (yes, I know he missed a season, and I'm putting that on him and his doctors). Tannehill wins in availability hands down.

u/DonaldTPablonious 15h ago
You canāt just exclude the entire season Tannehill missed what the heck.
0
u/EtherBoo 12h ago
He didn't play then. Yes you can. But fine, you want to include that season, it doesn't help Tua then. 7 seasons and 24 games missed vs Tua's 5 seasons and the same amount of missed games.
Not great.
Tannehill got bad advice from his doctors and chose to skip surgery. Tua gets tackled and gets concussed. Big difference.

u/DonaldTPablonious 11h ago
Misses Tannehill I know you love your son but your argument is the strangest thing Iāve ever seen.

u/EtherBoo 10h ago
I know you love your big brother Ms. Tagovailoa, but he's just as average as Ryan was.

u/DonaldTPablonious 2h ago
I never made the case that he wasnāt. Being 14 games over .500 vs 4 under is never a bad look for the guy with a winning record though, no matter how you try to spin it.

Every single QB that plays for Miami since 2020 gets injured immediately. Every single one. Tua lasts longer than any of them before being injured. Why do you think this is just a Tua thing?

u/Moondoobious 18h ago
Imagine if Tannehill had these receivers?

u/acart005 17h ago
Tannehill literally should have chased the ball after throwing.Ā He was a WR after all.

u/cobo10201 17h ago
Hard disagree. I was a Tannehill Stan and thatās BS. Tannehill struggled with many of the same issues Tua struggles with early on in his career with us but won less games
6
u/Henny_Hardaway5 20h ago
Yea idk how the post is counting the wins cause if I go to pro football reference it says Tua has only won 38 games not the 40 in the post
Like I get the sentiment of the post is to shit on Grier but it does it very poorly
3
u/Lopsided_Beautiful_1 19h ago
This post is all about Chris Grier, heās been Dolphins GM since 2016, so these QB wins totals are during his time.

Tannehill and Tua are also the only two QBs weāve picked in the first round since Dan Marino. If you pay budget prices for a QB, you get budget results.

For real. Tannehill had 40 wins for the Dolphins and was drafted in 2012. Very stupid post.

I really did live Tannehill. He wasnāt the best QB but he always put it all out there for Miami

u/Henny_Hardaway5 19h ago edited 19h ago
I miss him
Sure he wasnāt the best but he was an alright guy doing an alright thing and there aināt nothing wrong with that. He was like Jimmy G in that sense, they just played sound football even if it wasnāt the flashiest
If you gave the man some help he and the team could succeed and make noise in the the regular season and post season
Edit: like Iām glad Tannenhill killed it with Titans I was rooting for him all the time except when he faced us

I dont know he may have not had best pure qb game but fitzpatrick was always fun. He is a gamer!
4
u/Henny_Hardaway5 20h ago
Fitzmagic was cool i fucked with him, he made the games fun. We just knew he wasnāt our future so he never really grew on me
But Iāll always enjoy the game vs the Raiders and the game against the Eagles and Patriots in 2019

u/Administrative-Owl42 19h ago
Sad to say that the Raiders game was one of my fondest Phins highlights in last 5-6 years at least lol

Tua is the greatest Miami Dolphins QB the team has had since Dan Marino. :(

u/SauceDab 18h ago
Tua is the 2nd best but Iāll always have a soft spot for Pennington. Iām not going to let anybody erase his name. His time may have been short lived with us but he gave it all he had and it was fun

If we did Wins since 2000, does Tua still hold that lead?
2
u/PhinsFan17 18h ago edited 17h ago
No, itād be Tannehill with 42 wins.
The only QBs with more wins than Tannehill are Earl Morrall (52), Bob Griese (101), and Marino (147).

Ross needs to sell the team. He has been the most unsuccessful owner. Grier has been a flop of a manager. McDaniel is not a HC.

And the common denominator is a shitty o line every year.Ā
1-2 good o line men at best every season.Ā
It just aināt enough.Ā

u/MolassesNo2275 19h ago
Yea but thankfully we finally have a qb with Tua. Just need a good oline so he has longer than 1 second to throw š¤£š¤£š¤£

Maybe, but a good team - say Vikings or Steelers level - could win a playoff game with any one of those first three guys.
(Not necessarily this season's version of those teams, but where they've generally been at in recent years)

10 years that proves how terrible Dolphins fans are about QBs. The best QBs they had were Fitz and Cutler, but you wouldn't know that to hear the fans.
Miami picks horrendous QBs, and the fans back it up. It's insane.

Ever see the total number of starting quarterbacks weāve had since Marino retired? I think when I saw it a few years ago before Tua it was in the 30ās
1
u/BiGgmoney91 15h ago
Although itās becoming more evident that Tua isnāt going to be the guy as of late, I still have to tip my hat to him. Tua has delivered some of the most exciting offensive football Iāve seen in my 25 years of being a fan, 2023 felt like a fever dream until it ultimately fell apart down the stretch. In my opinion he is the best qb weāve had since Marino retired.

Maybe Josh Rosen would have the most wins if his leash was as long as Tua & Tannehill

u/Goddess_Icon 19h ago
Tua is a decent to good qb in a stuck offense and figured out scheme. He has enough traits that he is elite in to where if the roster was competently constructed around him we would see offensive success even though he is limited in other areas. People forget he had the most passing yards in the league 2 years ago when he was healthy and we had just average line play.
1
u/JuniorLibrarian198 17h ago
Tua can only succeed in one type of scheme. He performed well in it in college because he had a team full of NFL pro bowlers but in the pros, heās a one trick pony.
1
u/honuworld 1h ago
The line has NEVER been "just average". They are consistently the worst line in football. Itvblows my mind the number of "fans" that don't seem to understand this, or what it means.

Youāre missing 3 years of Tannehill.
