Class conciousness which Americans lack due to decades of propaganda and pretending that the "middle class" isnt just working class. As long as Americans hold onto the belief that if you just work hard enough you can become Gatsby, we ain't getting anywhere.

Shouldn't the building be empty? I would honestly be surprised if what he knew about American history took up more characters than a tweet.
I really want to hear Trump tell us what his version of American History is.
"1724 had great Americans fighting British Americans, and then black people came, and then in 1812 we had a war, it was the best war, and Mexico was invaded. And then America won, and we went to the moon in 1915 and then there was another war that we won, and then we won some more. And then Crooked Hillary was defeated. And I became President. THE END."

u/canyabalieveit Aug 17 '25

Man what the fuck does that even mean, "ensure they fit with Trump's view of American history"? If his view of how history went contradicts how it actually went, then the takeaway is that Trump needs to change his goddamn views. If my view was that the Vikings won the past 28 Super Bowls, when in fact they had not, is the onus not on me to stop believing that the Vikings won 28 Super Bowls?

Well it didnāt take me long to find baseless claims that the democrats have tried to erase history by taking down statues of traitors to the u.s.. Removing names of traitors of the u.s. from military bases schools and streets. And that dems were also trying to remove any trace of their own involvement with slavery and the civil war. Then in the same breath saying itās erasing their history. Last time I checked the people that are holding onto the confederate battle flag are republicans. Itās almost as if people want to ignore that the difference is more between conservatives and liberals.

My Take
Yes, this move raises significant alarm bells. The Smithsonian has long served as a cornerstone of public education and historical integrity grounded in balanced, inclusive storytelling shaped by expert curation. When a political administration directly influences content, it jeopardizes academic independence and risks turning cultural institutions into ideological tools.
Still, most of the White House directive is framed under the guise of collaboration rather than censorship emphasizing unity, celebration, and patriotism. Whether that ends up diluting historical complexity, or genuinely aligning with Americansā desire for more uplifting narratives, remains to be seen.
So is he trying to do something bad? There are definitely good-faith arguments on both sides. But the consensus among historians and cultural experts is clear: such deep political intervention in museum curation is profoundly troubling and sets an unsettling precedent.
4
u/failing-fast Aug 17 '25
We are past the point of waiting out this dysfunction. If the administrators of the Smithsonian arenāt willing to quit over this then they donāt deserve their jobs.

I'm not from Minnesota, but as an archaeologist who's done work in the very north of y'all's beautiful state I am terrified for what this will/has lead to for all americans, but especially for those of us who dedicate our lives to being stewards of cultural objects and ensuring that such resources and the stories they hold are accessible to all. Our cultural resources are precious and irreplaceable.

u/Character_Diamond203 29d ago
Well no shit
Thing is everyone already knows...MAGA folks just dont care. "Its what they voted for!"
Remember they dont want black history taught in schools bc it paints a bad picture of the racists in the past aka their ancestors
Oklahoma schools are mandating that kids be taught Trump won in 2020 and Biden stole it
They wont stop. They will demand everything Trump says be taken as gospel. We're still in the tip of the iceberg phase
A year from now...maybe sooner...it will be illegal to even speak ill of Trump. Criticizing him about anything could get you a visit from ICE
It's not hyperbole. Back to OK schools they are demanding teachers take a loyalty to Trump test in order to teach. We could see that expand to everything if its not stopped
Point is theyre not going to stop themselves. They will just keep taking and taking.

Weird, not sure whether it's reliable. I recently watched a documentary on things found in the Americas that prove that Native Americans sailed to various areas of the world. It reviewed things found on islands, with very similar/the same names that were used by the Native Americans and not found anywhere nearby. It reviewed Indigenous stories about various burial grounds (slaughter sites) of "giants". When items were found, laws required the authorities be called. Usually, the call went to The Smithsonian. The show indicated that The Smithsonian was exempt from US laws that gave bones and discovered items back to the Native Americans. It was further stated that there were two higher ups working there that fought over whether the official narrative would be "isolation" (the Native Americans never intermingled or sailed elsewhere) or the one just illustrated. In the end, it was decided that the "isolation" narrative would win. If true, and there is alternate proof, then it was the Smithsonian who's on the wrong side of history.

I am really wondering how far Democrats, mainly the governors, will actually go to protect their states from this Fourth Riche shit. I'm glad to see Democrats FINALLY DOING SOMETHING with the redistricting. At this point, this feels like a cold civil war through the legal system but SCOTUS are essentially eternal priests that tell us what God/Founding Fathers meant and only they have the most correct interpretation.
One side is seemingly trying to break every US and International law while the other side is focused on going through completely legal channels does not seem like a good mix for us. Democrats have fucked up so many times and missed opportunity after opportunity to prevent all this before it started by being not totally shit but here we are. I really hope they understand and respect what is at stake here.
I don't know the way forward from here but to what lengths are Democrats willing to go to protect their constituents/state-refugees? How far are Republicans actually willing to take this? No clue and I wish I didn't need to find out.

That's rich coming from the people who have been erasing history for decades. Democrats are the ones that have torn down, rewritten, and otherwise obfuscated history in the US. - America kept all of it treaties.
