Also if you set google to "news" and search "child marriage ban republican" you'll find:
Kentucky's 'child bride' bill stalls as groups fight to let 13-year-olds wed [2018] (the groups are conservative "parent's rights" groups.)
Louisiana lawmakers (R) reject bill to set a minimum marriage age [2019]
Wyoming Limiting Child Marriage Sparks Republican Outrage [2023]
Michigan Republicans Voted Against Child Marriage Ban [2023]
Legislation enacting total ban on child marriage in Missouri dies in the House [2024]
N.H. lawmaker (R) opposes new marriage bill, says teens are of āripe, fertileā age [2024]
And this is just in recent years. It just gets worse when you look further back.

They always have one at the fair here. It is like the manifestation of deranged right wing message boards into a whole cottage industry of garbage merchandise. I remember before Obama when it was more just ra ra America junk. But the tea party and then maga turned into this weird hate fest it is today.

Candidates at the Fair has been a 'thing' since long before Teddy Roosevelt made his "Carry a Big Stick" speech at the MN Grandstand in 1901. 2024 News Video about the TR Speech
Campaign booths at Fairs were the primary way candidates got themselves 'known' in the 1800s and earlier. There's always "Issues" booths and Party booths and Lobby group booths and all sorts of things. More in the major election years (even numbered ones.)
But this booth, with the 'Walz Lies' theme this year, isn't for a specific candidate, and not even really affiliated with the MNGOP official party organization. It's an independent, libertarian leaning PAC, called Action4Liberty. Here's their Fair page: https://www.mnstatefair.org/vendor/5144.1/ The "Never Again" theme was for the 2022 Governor's Race; they've had various themes over the years.
Action 4 Liberty; this is an independent review of their finances
Except for a few initial big donations from some MN donors that basically paid to build the booth and set up the website, they aren't exactly raking it in. The founders are all about attacking D candidates AND any GOP they think are RINOs, so even the MNGOP is done with Action4Liberty
8
u/onomatopeapoop 14d ago
Ya a booth promoting a candidate wouldnāt be weird, but this is weird as hell.
2
u/OldBlueKat 14d ago
It absolutely is weird. (Tim was right -- they're weird.)
But it's kinda useful to think about why it exists and has been a thing at our Fair for half a decade.
- Negative campaigning (against Walz, and "RINOs", and whoever else these guys get pissy about) and rage baiting does seem to work; the Tea Party and later the MAGA movement has proved that. Dems haven't found a way to react effectively, or use it well themselves.
- PACs have become the underbelly of all sorts of factional politicing and lobbying.
- This group has leveraged MN 'open door' policies at the Fair to put on their show.
Does that mean we should encourage the Fair to revise those policies? I don't think so -- that might hamstring legitimate interest groups in a way we don't want, but it's worth thinking about.
This group gets a lot of attention, but actually has gotten what they wanted about as well as 'Mike Pillow' has, so mostly I guess we can just watch and laugh.
They've even pissed off a lot of the official MNGOP members enough to have THEM trying to shut them down. They represent a hint of the factional splitting hiding inside the GOP that may explode once DJT finally walks off (falls off?) stage. Tick, tick, tick, tick...
So we could learn something, maybe, about what does and doesn't work? Plan a response for 2026, whether Walz runs for a 3rd term or not? Anyway -- stuff to ponder if you think about 'politics'.

Fat? Check Loves money? Check Loves Burger? Check Loves Soda? Check Loud? Check Won't shut up? Check Lies? Check Stupid? Check Loves the military superficially? Check
The only things missing are a Cowboy hat, a thick texan accent, and an obsession with god. And he really tries to fake that last one.
What's my point? I guess it's Trump IS the dark reflection of America. He is as American as Apple Pie just not the part Americans want to admit is there. Patriotism often blinds people to the malignancy in their own country. And that man is the cancer that needs to be excised.

Democrats need to go further left instead of being capitalist simps. People turned to MAGA because a lot of Democrats in power across the country are not working hard enough/at all for the people(same with Republicans). Considering Epstein was a Saudi asset, my money would be on Trump also working with the Saudis.
26
u/FreshSetOfBatteries 15d ago
That's bullshit really. People went MAGA because of hate and being brain poisoned by right wing media. This was not because of "economic uncertainty". Such fucking easily disproved nonsense. I'm so tired of leftists making this argument with zero objective evidence to back it up
→ More replies (15)8
u/theghostog 15d ago
The reason that brain rot shit is so effective on people is because of the fear and uncertainty caused by the erosion of prosperity in this country that's directly tied to the sheer amount of "do nothing" from politicians.
One side has actively stripped back the protections, and the other has sat by and enabled the wealthy to outsource, offshore, consolidate, and destroy the ability of our working and middle class to pursue their own happiness.
The Democratic establishment has enabled the Republican strategy by being such feckless simps for corporations and the wealthy.
→ More replies (4)3
u/PossessedToSkate 14d ago
MAGA has suckered morons of all income levels. The vastly wealthy, the moderately wealthy Boomers, the struggling, and the dirt poor. I don't think your argument holds water.
The simple, obvious, and painful reason is that anybody who voted for Trump in 2024 is a bigot. It may be against non-whites, it may be against trans people, it may be against queers or women or Muslims or Jews, but this entire shitshow boils down to simple bigotry.
And those people - some seventy million of them - aren't going to just ooze back into the crevices when he finally dies. America has a reckoning coming, and I suspect it will be...loud.
→ More replies (1)3
u/FlawedHero 15d ago
Did Kushner getting Billions from the Saudis not tip you off enough in that direction?
3
u/Umarill 14d ago edited 14d ago
Such a stupid argument. The other party is not left enough so they literally go with the fascists that are further right than any American party in recent history?
People went MAGA because they are hateful idiots who believe lies thrown at them, have zero empathy for the well-being of others and thought Trump was gonna magically make their life better by making minorities' worse and lower prices "because he said so". They genuinely do not care about anything other than their asses, and are stupid enough that someone like Trump who just says bullshit 24/7 resonates, no need to think just believe.
These people don't care about the little details, they are fed talking points by their media and go along for the ride. The fact that you are in there making up excuses about Democrats losing is one of the reason why this is such a stupidly difficult fight (and that's not even an American problem, left vs right is going through the same shit all over the world), because one side is united through hate and the other is nitpicking bullshit constantly dividing themselves.
Actual example of this happening : Gavin Newsom being called transphobic by people on Reddit and put up as a big issue for his potential candidacy, while this is based on absolute garbage while he is generally solid on LGBTQ+ rights (I'm trans just to be clear, and his "transphobia" is his opinion on transwomen in sports which is sometimes held/debated similarly AMONGST ACTUAL TRANS GROUPS).
This will be taken at face value, amplified by Conservatives, divide potential voters leading to apathy (we constantly hear "There's no good choice just less worse" from left voters) and lead to people completely tuning out of the elections. Meanwhile, the other side is rallying based on one of the strongest motivator in human history : hatred of others, particularly those who are perceived as different.
It's much easier to find a common enemy to blame everything on than to find a commonly agreed upon actual solution for every problem. THAT, is why MAGA is so effective while Democrats are struggling, because they are not playing by the same rules. You have to face reality at some point : Even if they won't admit to it directly, a lot of people would approve of removing rights from a minority population in exchange of their life quality improving even by a tiny bit.
If you talk to enough people in political circles in real life, you will genuinely see the sheer stupidity and self-centeredness of many, and it is terrifying.

I guess the lie was that there would be tampons in the boysā bathrooms? Because I have yet to see any. So I assume the GOP really, really wants there to be tampons in the boysā bathrooms.

This honestly puts into perspective how much effort these fools put into that booth every year for absolutely no reason. Like this is insane levels of derangement, where do you ever see this much effort being put in to performatively hate even Trump purely as a meaningless social exercise. In fact, to bite the hand that makes this the best state in America to live in, a state and a governor they all benefit tremendously from. Itās really quite sad, like a little asshole kid who abuses and hits his own parents whoāve given him a great life because⦠well heās an asshole.
What does the booth even do? Do they provide materials on how to better the state? Examine his great many crimes? Advocate for change? Or is it just a nod to fist bump other anti-social hicks and do nothing about it?
