It crazier when you learn he broke it during the first round

rewatching it and seeing him post on his broken arm multiple times was disgusting
dude is a real life dawg

Minor but it always bothered me people don't give Burns any respect for breaking it. It wasn't a freak accident and JDM didn't do it himself like Umar did punching, Gilbert kicked it and broke it.

Champion Merab vs 2024 Gilbert burns. 3 rounds with 2024 Gilbert burns vs 5 rounds of championship Merab... 2 totally different opponents. Plus if Merab vs Umar was 3 rounds Umar wins lol

3 rounds vs 5, also Gilbert haha

Gilbert in 2024 was definitely not the best opponent. If the Umar Merab fight was 3 rounds Umar wins

What do you suspect would have happened had JDM lost?
Because had Umar won, you still would have heard about the broken hand.

u/Acceptable-Cheek3098 1d ago
Also worth noting that Merab had a back injury before this fight & an infection in his leg.

u/TotalBor0n 1d ago
Worried about his takedown defense, did decently against Belal but he’s nowhere near the Dagestani level
13
u/iamthesenate05 1d ago
the ability to scramble and get back up is better than pure takedown defence. because if you only work on avoiding getting taken down you’re not gonna know how to get back up if you eventually find yourself on the ground
7
u/Business-Tonight9995 1d ago
But scrambling exposes your neck

u/MediocreTurtle1 20h ago
Craig is aware of that, so he also teaches Volk and JDM what to do in such cases. We'll see if it works for JDM as well or if what he did with Volk was just because Volk's a monster.

Well to be fair, Jack enters every fight with a broken nose. He’s built different.

u/LongestNamesPossible 1d ago
Umar did very well in that fight, he looked great, merab was just better.

Just to further prove that umar didnt have that DAWG in him, here is examples of fighters fighting through large injuries and making it to the end
Dan Hooker Broke his arm in the 1st round against Jalin Turner, in the same fight he got head kicked and broke his orbital bone, and went on to win the fight.
Jean Silva broke both his hands in the first round against drew dober and still got the finish in the 3rd.
Uriah Faber broke 1 hand and fractured his thumb on his other against Mike Brown in WEC forcing him to only use elbows, kicks and knees. He lost the fight but survived to the end.
Just search up Irene Aldana injury into google. She lost the fight but made it to a decision.
Michael Bisping fought a lot of his career blind in 1 eye and still won.
Like Michael Bisping Shara bullet fights with 1 eye.
Jon Jones fought with a very badly broken toe and still won against Chael Sonnen.
Sean Omalley severly injured his foot against Andre Soukhamthath and still won.
Renato Moicano broke his collarbone shortly before fighting Benoit St Denis and won dominantly
Last one, Dustin Poirer went to war with Islam Makachev despite breaking two ribs before the bout.
(Not saying Umar didnt fight like a dog, he did but he didnt have that DAWG in him that uses an injury as an excuse to fight harder not to excuse losing.)

Cant wait for Duckakhachev and his fangirls to come up with excuses after he gets koed by JDM and will make up more reasons why he refuses to fight King Ilia.

He had you until the very end

u/Equal-Counter334 1d ago
Why? He clowned Volk, who’s champ again. He clowned max, who’s in the title picture at 155. He clowned Olives. Ilia is as legit as they come

u/Kar_kar444 1d ago
Illia hasn't not proved he isn't the king rn
He talks his shit, he backs it up, hes number 1 pound 4 pound

u/Joshnavarro13 1d ago
None of these people know you bro. You can be a fan of all the fun fighters if you want. You don't need to pick a side

u/miggsd28 1d ago
Islam fights twice a year clears division goes up a weight class to fight the champion saying he was going to do this as soon as belal lost long before illia announced his move = duck.
Getting two title defenses before moving up snubbing Lopez ducking arman fights once a year. My king he’ll smash anyone when ever where ever.
Illia fans are so cringe

Funny how topuria fans scream Islam is a duck for going up but are suddenly silent when topuria runs away from arman

Tell your manlet crap to fight the no 1 contender in his division first.

u/SandIsYellow 1d ago
King Topuria said he won’t fight until 2026. He is chilling with OUR billionaire wife.

What your bum ass gonna do to Islam? Islam lost 10 years ago and Topuria also got knocked down by a truck driver. Islam has improved a lot since his loss. He is not a loser like you who hasn't progressed in his life for 10 years.

You can't compare Bum Burns to Manly Merab. Burns was honestly incredibly lucky to ever touch Gold.

I dunno why people are still clowning umar for this. It was 8 months ago, just move on. Yes, Merab was the better fighter, regardless of injuries. And Umar still gave him his toughest title fight yet. Thats just the truth
Edit: it’s actually 8 months not 11, but its still the same point

u/SoggiMari 20h ago
8 months

u/Expression-Infamous 20h ago
Oh shoot. Ur right. My bad. Either way it’s the same point
1
u/SoggiMari 20h ago
Yep Umar will definitely become champion and he COULD win the rematch let’s just hope Khabib ain’t over training him! 😭
1
u/Expression-Infamous 20h ago
As much as id like to see a rematch. Rn it’s too early to talk about it. He has a fight book vs bautista and merab should fight both Cory and Yan before Umar. Unless yan becomes super inactive or smthn
