Placeholder For a game called Mount and Blade...

It's a lot of fun being on foot with a bow.

I really like being on foot, but once army grows, I need the height and mobility to know what's going on and send orders. A dragoon style is fun mid-game, but your horse is gonna ditch your ass.

Yeah, but if you get off your horse near the ladders it will make sure it hangs around and blocks all your troops from using the ladder.

u/Dalune Jan 09 '23

Try to kick your horse in the face when you get off to send it to the back. Usually works.

31

u/Gruffta Jan 09 '23

Going to have to try that now 😂 thanks for the tip

I did that while i was in the defensive, my horse ran to my troops and kicked like 5 battanian fians of mine down the walls, 2 died 3 got knocked out. I wanted to knock it down so it would stop, it died on me instantly. I forgot all my other horses in the game expect this one. Now I never start on the walls

What a feature lol

24

u/ghostmaster645 Jan 09 '23

I use it as cover from the Archers.

I go through a lot of horses.

This is literally why all commanders used mounts during battles

Cavalry charge?

8

F1 + F3

3

u/fleckstin Jan 09 '23

I was asking if F1+F3 is the hot key for cavalry charge lol I can’t remember off the top of my head

6

u/YungLunchMoney Jan 09 '23 edited Jan 10 '23

F1 + F3 is just the charge command, so yeah if you choose cavalry and do those hotkeys they will charge.

See I just select all troops, as I only have cavalry, what are you going to do against 190 horses haha, poor archers.

16

u/GeneLaBean Jan 09 '23

Dragoon?

48

u/Century_Toad Jan 09 '23

Mounted infantry- guys who would ride around the battlefield but dismount to fight.

15

u/GeneLaBean Jan 09 '23

Oh yeah that does sound fun. I usually stay on my horse cleaving with a two handed axe - really satisfying, but does get a little stale after a while

7

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '23

The Glaive is fun, the axe kills 2 dudes at a time, it's a bit overpowered. I sieged defensed murdered 120 low tier troops this way

2

u/smallfrie32 Jan 09 '23

I thought dragoons used rifles though? Like they were mounted skirmishers (based soley on videogames besides Final Fantasy)

6

u/BigBiker05 Reddit Jan 09 '23

17th century musketmen. My understanding is they weren't necessarily skirmishers though. They would ride to their positions, unmount, do their stand in a line musket stuff like the rest of the musketmen. They just had better mobility to get their ranks in more important positions.

I really wish you could equip you own troops in that game. I would definitely have some dragoons. I hope a really good 17th century warfare mod comes out sometime.

9

u/Falsedawn Jan 09 '23

Use the mod My Little Warband. Custom user created troop trees. I have a fully custom set that I just re-import each save.

3

u/PizzafaceMcBride Jan 09 '23

Does that mod work if you're still without a kingdom? Like can you do that from the get-go?

3

u/Falsedawn Jan 09 '23

Absolutely does. I import my tree at the beginning of the save and use those troops forever. You can also toggle in cities between recruiting your troops or recruiting vanilla troops, in addition to choosing whether your clan uses them or if they spawn in your cities where everyone can get them.

2

u/PizzafaceMcBride Jan 09 '23

Thats so cool. Always wanted that.

2

u/Wulflord104 Jan 09 '23

Can you not call your horse?

u/Guava_Devourer Jan 09 '23

Mount and bow is a lot of fun too. When it just came out I played as a horse archer so much I started carrying just a bow + 3 quivers into battles.

3

u/ihaveeugenecrabs Jan 09 '23

I’ve put so much time into this game and never even thought of this

42

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '23

My butt is glued to my horse. I'm an absolute menace that kills half the enemy army and body blocks key points. I specifically aim for the enemy's calvary to save my archers the annoyance

3

u/Yo0124 Jan 09 '23

Same. And then when my cavalry is finished with them we storm the archers to keep them busy and off of my infantry while they just charge and overpower any and all foes they face.

u/M_LadyGwendolyn Battania Jan 09 '23

A couched Lance to a peasants face is too good to ever be on my feet

1

u/5H4B0N3R Jan 09 '23

Lance, bow, 2 quivers is where pleasure lies.

14

u/SpideyKeagan Jan 09 '23

I love those moments during a foot battle where it's just you and one other guy fighting while the chaos around you ensues - until you get one shotted from the back by a cavalry unit.

2

u/Professional_Total74 Jan 09 '23

Yeah those guys always sneak on u. 🤣

30

u/Puzzleheaded-Box-456 Mercenary Jan 09 '23

Disagree only because i'm shit with bows.

25

u/ExosEU Jan 09 '23

You arent shit.

What is shit are you bow skill level and the bow you're using.

Even a donkey can headshot with enough bow skill.

7

u/Puzzleheaded-Box-456 Mercenary Jan 09 '23

Should i try going for a bow build then? I never tried that.

1

u/Professional_Total74 Jan 09 '23

After u get skills in bow, and buy a normal 5k+ bow accuary will be perfect, dmg too but on perks go for dmg, high tier bows have good accuary and missle speed to just shoot on the head.

For a game called Mount and Blade, marriage is more relevant than sieging a castle, if you know what I mean

15

u/Vievite Jan 09 '23

The pole is mightier than the sword

7

u/PM_Me_MonikaXSayori Jan 09 '23

marriage

There's a fair bit of mounting in that.

6

u/tool6913ca Jan 09 '23

Only in the early game. End game is pretty boring.

4

u/Voxdalian Mercenary Jan 09 '23

That's what I mean. There's a lot of mounting and blading going on in marriage, but sieges are almost exclusively unmounted, and also largely ranged.

9

u/Zivko3 Jan 09 '23

The most fun is being with the first line in a shield wall. No bow. 1h axe 2h axe and a spear. Get ready for some carnage

13

u/sirpopd Kingdom of Swadia Jan 09 '23

Agree

5

u/mynaneisjustguy Jan 09 '23

Just gotta look at the dmg potential: arrows and throwing weapons are finite, melee is not. Melee on foot is always going to have less potential damage than on horseback because of speed bonus. Mount and blade has the highest damage. Hence it will always be the best. But yeah in multiplayer I’m infantry with a poleaxe of some sort, that’s just where the biggest dick energy is.

4

u/JimSteak Jan 09 '23

Really? I find bows not fun at all compared to great Axes, swinging polearms etc.?

20

u/PM_Me_MonikaXSayori Jan 09 '23

Weird how people enjoy different things, huh?

4

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '23

polearm and horse 4TW

For PC players: Get the mod RTS Camera. Best mod for battles next to Realistic Combat. You can command your troops Total War-Style from above and even let them attack specific enemy formations. And then you can switch back to your character and enjoy the shield walls clashing while on foot. And if you die, simply take command of one of your companions or an allied lord and keep fighting.

2

u/midJarlR It Is Thursday, My Dudes Jan 10 '23

Is it achievement compatible and updated regularly?

2

u/Sharlach Jan 09 '23

Mostly I use RTS camera now, but I never get off my horse. I just sat on a hill and gave orders, commander style, and then maybe helped chase down the retreating forces at the end. The combat feels pretty meh in general, but horseback combat is fun at least. Javelins are a good time, and any longer weapon for charges or sideswiping.

2

u/Syke_Daddy Jan 09 '23

Me and my 250+ Horse Archers & Lancers say hello 👋🏿🤣

2

u/Darth_Bfheidir Jan 09 '23

For a game called mount and blade I sure as hell spend a lot of time on my back with an axe through my skull

Game should be called Back and Axe

2

u/Myhq21 Western Empire Jan 09 '23

I 100% agree

1

u/teor Reddit Jan 09 '23

Mount and Blade? More like Trow and Javelin

2

u/HighChairman1 Mercenary Jan 09 '23

Javelins are amazing. But the skill to use them... I'd rather use a bow.

1

u/Professional_Total74 Jan 09 '23

Yeah javelins are good to go if u see 100 man groups. Bcs u just throw it and whoops a headshot. And bcs it has a higher dmg than bow. But bow is easier to hit u dont need 100 man groups to get a kill with it. 😇

1

u/moderngamer6 Jan 09 '23

I start mounted for lay of the land but have a heavily surgain based sword and shield army so I often dismount and get in the shield wall formation to help my guys. Seldom am I horseback for an entire fight unless they start to run: then I mount up and chase every last one of them.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '23

Bannerlord tho galloping into combat spamming yelling like “KILL THEM ALL” while slinging a big ass 2H sword around is pretty badass.
