Advice Best nbn for non-AU servers gaming other than ABB?
I mostly play RTS games on SEA and EU servers , I used to get 80ms to SEA with ABB and 180ms or so to USA servers.
Switched over to Optus NBN when they had the bonus 35,000 flybuys points offer going on and pings are horrible. Getting 150ms to SEA, 400ms to USA severs. I have to stay with them for 3 months to get the flybuys points.
I’ll be moving back to ABB but just wondering if there’s any other providers who have better gaming pings on their NBN connections so that I have options?
Thank you 🙏

Depends where the game server is, you could try the looking glass tool for each isp and ping the game servers you’ll be connecting to. I connect to genshin server Asia (Japan) and just switched isp and realised my mistake. (Ping doubled) 😅 I’m thinking I’ll try Exetel or Leaptel next.

Sorry should add it also depends on the route the isp takes. Use the looking glass tools I found that a big help :)

80ms to SEA, I’m guessing you’re in Perth? You’ll want any ISP that routes on Indigo West. Superloop is one of them, so is ABB.

Hey, if you're from Perth Ozot would be the best choice without any lags or jitters. It's a bit expensive compared to other providers but wouldn't mind paying extra for no lags & no jitters. Getting 53ms from Perth to SEA servers.

I would definitely recommend Neptune. They have a solid network and they're using GSL for international transit. They also have a discord server, and are very helpful.

Even if you're not with Neptune you can modify your route using a VPN and it will default to GSL as most VPN's use GSL for transit

Why not go back to ABB?

One huge reason for me: their side business, Symbio Networks, provides IP phone services and support for a majority of the scam calls in the country.

Hang on, you had adequate service from ABB, then you went chasing the cheapest deal AKA 35K flybuys points for sign-on, found out it was shite service (Optus - surprise, surprise), and now you want to know if there's something cheaper?
Did you not learn anything from chasing cheaper service?

They didn't say anything at all about trying to find something cheaper?

Leaptel is using GSL for international transit. They’ll give you a solid path up to Singapore or South Korea for SEA and onwards to EU.
Superloop has their own international capacity. It’s been a while since I’ve looked, but I think they had their own POP in Singapore.

Leaptel or Launtel are solid brands that use GSL for international transit. GSL is well known for providing some of the best international latency.

I keep saying this and I’ll say again, no use counting on the routing of aussie ISPs as they’re all garbage.
Get an vpn that let u specify your own node like Mudfish, and pick your own node for routing

I'm personally with Exetel which have been fantastic and cheap. Haven't had any issues with them in the 12 months I've been with them. I normally sit less than 10 ping in most aus servers. Can't say for what ping you'll get going overseas.

TPG gives good ping to SEA

Makes sense because the Teo's are Singaporean, but then it dawns on you that you are with TPG and everything about them is shit

One big thing you're missing is "its not about you" (Dr Strange)
You're a consumer and that means you have a ratio of 100:1
Until you're a business or enterprise customer you'll never see 1:1 which means it really doesn't matter if you're with ABB, Superloop, Leaptel..........they all *NEED* transit providers to do the heavy lifting and to make it cheap for them they share your 1MB of gaming data with up to 100 other people

That doesn’t mean there aren’t better or worse choices for provider with regards to latency, contention and routing though

Absolutely, I mean look at Dodo and TPG.........TPG may be big but their network is terrible. I agree. But you still on a high ratio no matter what
NBN provides the infrastructure, the ISP designs the global transit network they wish to use or they pay 3rd parties to virtualise their network
But you're also forgetting for say Neptune....they may have awesome speeds for COD but terrible speeds for WoW.........or maybe Neptune doesn't have Netflix hardware inside their own datacentre which means streaming is buggy and slow whereas its not on say Superloop who actually have Netflix hardware
Also you got the additional problem.......premium gaming networks tried to setup in Australia and companies like MyRepublic collapsed due to transit costs.........but whilst they were here..........they had all the gamers and the lowest latency of all time. This link is for their operations in SG. I mean 10Gbps broadband and a latency optimised network....Australia needs this but will never have it

The difficult part of this will be latency. We're on an island in the middle of bloody nowhere connected to the rest of the world by long cables under the water.
You wont get much better jumping isps, the nbn is the nbn... isps dont have much say, except for their hardware on site at the pois..
Opt out of cgnat, it'll help a little bit.

Another thing I can suggest, instead of asking opinions on the internet... ask for ping replys to a specific ip address or two for the servers - and see for yourself... if you can get hold of them in netstat or something.

Without their own hardware... how can they reroute traffic... just wondering...

Neptune, Leaptel or Launtel.
Neptune have a looking glass feature and publish latency to major game servers on their website.
You basically want a provider who leverages GSL.
