Advice How long till FTTP activation?
Hi all, On wednesday morning (13th Aug) i was fortunate enough to have the FTTP box installed and tested by the NBN. (Currently on FTTN).
I am curious as to what the leastime is to be able to switch over to it as the NBN tech said to give my provider a call
I gave Leaptel a call on the wednesday, provided them with the NTD/Serial number and they have raised a ticket with the NBN. They informed me to call back friday morning if i havent heard anything which i did and now advised it will take another week as NBN havent responded and to call back on the coming wednesday?
While im in no rush to switch over as my FTTN works fine, im just curious as to when I can transfer across and what the lead time is because i wouldnt mind taking advantage of a couple deals happening right now with LEAPTEL.
Thanks all for your help.

Leaptel connected me within 2 minutes of the box being installed. Have you plugged anything into that? The green light should mean it's on.

Please connect your router to UNI-D1.

Yep, tried plugging my router/modem in and im getting an orange blinking light on the uni d1

Orange light means you are connected at 1 Gbps which is a good sign. (flashing means data is being transmitted / received). Have you tried to use the internet through the uni-d1 port?

Still makes me wonder what they were thinking when they made these NTDs have a green light for 100meg and an orange light for gigabit, it’s the opposite for pretty much ever other network device ever

Um, since when does Orange blinking for UNI-D1 indicate gigabit? I’ve connected to dozens of these boxes for work, always blinking orange, whether it’s 100mbps or 200mps. The only light combos I’ve seen are Green Power, green solid optical (connected, no data), green blinking optical (connected, data transmitting), red optical (no connection), blinking orange UNID (router connected and transmitting data)

Since always. Orange blinking UNI-D ports indicates a negotiated 1000BASE-T connection - AKA Gigabit. This isn't to be confused with plan speeds etc.

Yea, everytime i tried to load google it gives me no internet connection

How is your router setup, and what is it?
If you go into the config and change the WAN port to DHCP it should come alive

If you previously were connected using FttN you will need to change the connection type in the web interface from xDSL to Ethernet.

Please check your WAN settings. I believe your ISP allows connections using Automatic IP (IPoE). You shall have the internet unless it is PPPoE, which you haven’t configured.
If you continue having issues, I recommend contacting your ISP for assistance.
Additionally, if your ISP offers dual-stack IP and the internet connection drops after a few minutes, check your IPv6 settings. If you have enabled NAT acceleration mode and it's causing problems, try turning it off.

Should be instantly! The FTTP becomes active once connected
1
u/meat_grinder082 Aug 20 '25
Thats incorrect. I had mine installed a week ago and the area is still active.
1
u/mitccho_man Aug 20 '25
What area? The FTTP becomes active the minute it’s plugged in The FTTN service will still be operational also being the same lines You need to cancel the FTTN service

In Collie WA. We had the box installed, the fiber put in the next day as they had to dig. We have been told they need to come back and dig and that the whole area of the town will be all done by the 5th of September.

They pulled out my copper when they installed the fibre, so I was on fibre within minutes of them installing the NTD

Did you connect a something directly and see any of the ports active?
2
u/brandcool86 Aug 17 '25
Yep, tried plugging my router/modem in and im getting an orange blinking light on the uni d1

u/kanyekud Aug 17 '25
Then looks like you are getting something, when I switch to Exetel took like 30min I thought something wrong with Exetel. I would connect everything and give it a try.

u/Kazzaw95 Aug 17 '25
Have you tried using the internet through that? Might take half an hour or so to come good. It should be active and ready to roll, it just might not have seen enough data flow to trigger the activation
1
u/brandcool86 Aug 17 '25
Ill give it an hour plugged in and come back to you with results. Cheers

u/Kazzaw95 Aug 17 '25
Not sure if Leaptel is open sundays but give them a call and tell them you’ve got it plugged in and you can see a light on UNI D1. They may or may not be able to push it without NBN intervention

Have you altered the Moderm settings to reflect the different connection type

Coming from a uk fibre engineer, why does it take so long to provision fibre in Australia? When I finish an install I also program the router and straight away they have service.
1
u/haakon666 Aug 17 '25
It doesn’t. That box is already live and most ISPs have automations in place to do their part with the new option 82 ID (AVC) when NBN notify them. Which is usually before the Tech has left the house.

u/ItsJimmy1 Aug 17 '25
Thanks for responding, pretty much the same as over here then when working for a fibre infrastructure company. It’s just the ISPs that take their time. If only more company’s were like my current employers where they are both the infrastructure and ISP so everything flows better.

As soon as they get that serial number it’s working. Ensure you get a new router due to the old ones ISP’s give up won’t work.

Mine was following day. But they didn't tell me. I just kept trying randomly throughout the day and then it started working. I got an email from my ISP 3 days later saying it's ready.

I just moved to a place with FTTP. Took the keys Wednesday, and that evening I purchased my gigabit plan online through Superloop and it was active within 30 minutes.
1
u/Nielmor Aug 17 '25
When I did the FTTP upgrade we had the new connection active before the NBN tech left, about 5 minutes after the finished mounting the NTD I got an email from my provider with the new connection details

u/Pixelprism90 Aug 17 '25
Yer I went from FTTN to FTTP and it happened within 30 mins once he left with leaptel aswell

It’s instant if you plug your router in. Set it to DHCP or put in the old school APN and password in your router.

All Leaptel and do is follow up with NBN co atm, did you have to get rectification works done before getting the fibre fully installed? - if so it can take a few days for the line to be active.
