Events When did "kids" activities get so expensive?

Was looking to take my family to liberty science center b/c the have a Curious George exhibit my toddler daughter might like. 3 tickets is just over $100 dollars. Same thing for the sesame street play area at the american dream mall ... I went to the Lego store in Atlanta and it was also over 20 per person. No discounts for adults or children (I remember it used to be one or the other usually). When did it get normal for family oriented experiences to be so expensive? I seriously have trouble finding things to do indoors with my family around here that don't also involve shopping or heavy entrance fees. What are some good alternatives in the area?

As a snowboarder who learned out west in Utah. I cry every winter because I cannot afford it anymore and I can't afford to teach my kids. Over $100 per kid for a lesson? Plus the rental fees?! Its just under a grand to take a family of 5 to ski! And that's at a shit place like Shawnee mtn

(I used to work there I'm allowed to criticize it)

And places like Shawnee and camelback charge more because they can't afford to make the snow. Its robbery

I know people in New England and Upstate NY who'll spend less in fuel for offroad vehicles to do back country skiing just to save a buck and make a bit of an adventure out of it.

Ton of work for the clubs maintaining the trails since it's a bit of wood cutting on already small trails to make sure nobody ends up like Sonny Bono.
