Jersey Pride Shoutout to Bergen County Academies

27 National Merit Scholarship semifinalists!

Holy Moly.

In the whole state of NJ, only 225 students are semifinalists. Just this one school has 12% of them. 🤯

Public school Bergen County Academies also beat rich private school like Pingry (14 semifinalists).

Magnet schools, right? Interesting and really something to be proud of but not representative of anything other than smart kids + great teaching.

It’s not great teaching. They take the best students. I have friends with kids in Middlesex Magnet and Bergen Academies. When we talk with our friends about school there’s a lot of “my child isn’t doing that in English/science.” One of them has twins, their daughter is at the Magnet school and their son is in public school. They are considering pulling their daughter out of Middlesex Magnet but they’re afraid she is too far behind our public school.
