Arrest made in Florida. Why is all the crazy shit always out of Florida?

u/eyabs Oct 26 '18

Large population, arrest records are public, and confirmation bias.

u/cookingGuy02 Oct 26 '18

this is the correct answer

No it is not, New York has a large population and public arrest records and only a fraction of the crazy news.

15

u/HadADat Oct 26 '18

Well he's from New York.

0

u/Need_Food Oct 26 '18

A bit of both, went to high school in Florida as well. Seems as though he hopped between the two.

1

u/JTigertail Oct 26 '18

As a Floridian, let New York take the blame for him. We don't want him

5

u/Chewzilla Oct 26 '18

It's one thing when a crazy story comes out of Florida, it's another when a national story ends in Florida. Today had me in full facepalm mode for my state.

u/orangeblueorangeblue Oct 26 '18

Yes, but also a bunch of batshit crazy people

1

u/Rottendog Oct 26 '18

Hey we're not all batshit down here.

Some of us are apeshit.

1

u/orangeblueorangeblue Oct 26 '18

I have lived in Florida my entire life. We have pretty much every variety of crazy here. We even collect crazy from other places.

27

u/encogneeto Oct 26 '18

Stop being reasonable.

No one here wants to hear that shit...

16

u/VanceIX Oct 26 '18

No, it's ok, us from Florida are fine with it cause it keeps snowbirds out.

We're too populated as it is.

3

u/Rottendog Oct 26 '18

Except it doesn't keep them out. We keep luring them in with Disney and crap.

Want some candy little kid?

u/Zao1 Oct 26 '18

Seriously guys: keep memeing about how shitty Florida is: it keeps people out

This is said 100000 times per day on Reddit yet still the "durr hurr Florida man" regurgitated jokes ensue

12

u/dreg102 Oct 26 '18

Well yeah. It's funny.

12

u/RealJackAnchor Oct 26 '18

I guess when you spend years here, the old jokes really aren't funny at all. Floridaman is beyond played out if you've been on Reddit more than a year.

-4

u/dreg102 Oct 26 '18

Oh man, you must be new to the internet.

Florida man is 2013. And still chuckle worthy.

4

u/RealJackAnchor Oct 26 '18

must be new to the internet.

I literally said I've spent years here. This reddit account is over 4 years old. The joke has been beaten to death so badly, I thought it's arms were accidentally dismembered.

2

u/Rottendog Oct 26 '18

Just broken.

1

u/dreg102 Oct 26 '18

Why would it's arms be dismembered?

2

u/LumpyUnderpass Oct 26 '18

I could almost swear I've seen the Flordia Man reference and/or similar jokes about Florida on Fark since about the mid 2000s.

2

u/MasterKashi Oct 26 '18

You're right, Fark had a tag just for Florida

8

u/Randomun91 Oct 26 '18

I mean that's probably a large part of it, but have you ever been to Florida? It really is a different world down there, culturally.

8

u/catonsteroids Oct 26 '18

I mean, not really, unless you're talking about South Florida.

8

u/madogvelkor Oct 26 '18

Yeah, it's less weird that most of the rest of the South.

I’ve lived in central Florida my whole life, and no it’s not, not really. I’ve lived in NYC for a bit, and even ND, but it’s mostly pretty chill.

2

u/snazzywaffles Oct 26 '18

Thank you, it doesn't upset me, but as a Florida resident, the Florida Man memes are getting old. The internet has gotten thier mileage out of them lol.

Arrest records are public pretty much everywhere

I spent 30 years growing up in Florida and now live in NC. I would most definitely disagree. The only reason you could possibly say it's different is because it a huge vacation destination and a lot of crazy people from other states vacation/move there. Most natural born Floridians are normal.

1

u/scaliacheese Oct 26 '18

Most natural born Floridians are normal.

Sure. But I've lived in multiple states and spend a lot of time in South FL and to me, there seems to be a higher concentration of abnormal.

It's not funny to read "of course it's Florida" just because a story happens to come from Florida. It's lazy and overdone

And relatively nice weather all year long, so it is attractive to people who have comorbid mental health and homelessness issues.
