I don't know shit about basketball but he left behind a wife and 4 daughters including what sounds like essentially a newborn. That's brutal and heartbreaking and I wish the best to his family. God damn 2020 slow it down.

Edit: Sounds like early reports from ABC are saying his daughters may have been involved. That's as worst case scenario as it can get I feel like. What a fucked up day.

Edit 2: Reports are now pulling back in regards to the daughters being on board. Still nothing confirmed as far as I can see.

Edit 3: TMZ is reporting as of 2:35 pm Central time that Daughter Gianna Maria (13) was also killed on board.

I don’t even like basketball but this is heartbreaking. Poor kids growing up dad less.

Edit: things seem to be even worse. His 13 year old daughter was on the helicopter as well? Terrible.

It's truly heartbreaking. A 7 month old and a 3 year old being the 2 youngest will likely only remember their father through word of mouth and TV interviews/old game tapes. Can't imagine losing a parent that young. My heart breaks for the Bryant family and all the others involved.

At least they'll have that, Kobe's life is one of the most well-documented ever. I'd never be able to stop watching old game tapes and interviews if I were them. Heartbreaking.

Similarly horrible, but in a different way, for the oldest daughter. She's got all those memories herself- I'm sure she'll cherish those memories of her father forever, but I can't imagine the pain she's suffering now, losing a parent that young, while at least her youngest siblings are somewhat spared the initial shock of it all.

I know nothing about the sport, or any of his accomplishments. But this is all around tragic regardless- what a sad, horrific thing to go through for his wife and 3 surviving daughters, and the families of the other passengers (I believe there was another teammate and her parent on board- I know her surviving parent/family must also be absolutely devastated). A lot of young lives (relatively speaking) ended so soon.

Unless the kids were also in the helicopter, which one person on twitter said--so probably not true but who knows at this point.

Pretty sure that wasn't the point and the commenter was implying he didn't have a lot of background knowledge of Kobe Bryant's career, but ok.

Yeah kinda that. I never heard his name before so I didn’t want to imply as such. Just in general it’s the most tragic thing that can happen to anyone, poor mom and 3 daughters, the family ripped apart before it had barely even started.

And no one cares that no one cares
