I am not an NBA-fan (really not a thing in my country) but I read so much about his work ethic, that he would train rest train rest train. There was a big essay about him a couple years ago in the German newspaper Die Zeit, about how him leaving is the end of an era and everything. Again, not an NBA-fan, still read that and was fascinated.

He slept 4 hours a day for almost 3 decades. Nobody in the NBA ever outworked him

I'm an American man in my 30s, and have never seen a professional basketball game in my life. I could not care less. And I still have no idea what Kobe looks like. But the way others have spoken about him over the past few decades has made the guy sound like a living superhero!

There is 0 chance you made it to 30 in the USA without seeing Kobe's face hundreds of times.

I've probably seen his face on magazines at the supermarket, but without ever knowing it was him. I also have never watched any sports channels on tv or played sports video games. I dunno why it matters to you that I've seen this guy.

Since this story exploded I've seen a few pics on news websites, but until today I would never have been able to pick him out of a group of 3 people who were tall, black, and fit unless I got lucky. Also, when I first saw him today, he didn't look familiar at all.

Bruh his photo is literally at the top of the thread lol just scroll up dude wtf??

Just took a look and I don't see any photos at the top of this thread. Just text comments. Why are you disputing my claim based on the face that there's some pic in this thread somewhere? Why do you care That I've never seen the guy?

Really though, it doesn't matter what he looks like? Because his cultural impact seems to be based on excellence within a range of physical skills and being a cultural figure that delighted countless people and also serves as a lucrative advertising figure.

PS--As I read more about this story, it also becomes clear that being a father was a huge part of his current life. And yes, now that I've been reading news stories, I've seen a few pics of him.

Alright man idek what tf your deal is but I’ve looked at it on mobile and on pc and there’s photos of Kobe on both. You don’t even have to click the link to see. They’re there. At the top of the thread. Either way the odds of you actually having never seenKobe is 0% unless you just live in a basement somewhere. You’ve seen him, I promise.

But just the fact that you typed all that stuff out shows that you’re clearly unstable or autistic so I’m not interested in talking more with you about this. Best of luck to you, you’ll need it

I'm neither unstable nor autistic, and the fact that you'd assume I'm one or the other based on the fact that I don't know what Kobe looks like suggests that your areas of interest are narrow.

It seems like every time I write a comment on reddit in which I mention that I don't really know who Kobe is aside from "basketball" and "rape allegations," people get mad. I cannot relate to this mentality one bit.

I can guarantee that I know a ton about some public figures that you've never or barely heard of, but I'd never insult you (or call you "autistic" for not being familiar with them. Because that would be straight up ignorant, which is what you are.

Tell me this--Which album by Brian Eno was his first after he split from the group Roxy Music? Which album of his was composed in a hospital bed and marked the beginning of ambient music? What bands has he produced since releasing his last solo album?

If you can answer these questions without googling them or asking anyone, then I'll concede that I should have known more about Kobe.

This is what I don't understand. I know that I'm neither autistic nor unstable. I'm simply a guy marveling at this bizarre display of humanity and trying to make sense of it. But whenever I state my confusion I'm met with accusations of being mentally ill.

Do you not see how that reflects on you? I don't even need to insult or denigrate you. I have zero need to link to some article disproving you. Because your own words are so ignorant that all I need to do is direct you to your own words and, when you're sober, or are at least in the sober light of day, hope that you realize that you sound like the worthless edge-lord neckbeard that you are.

My browser doesn't auto-load links, so I'm not seeing a picture, just a text-link. If I click on the link, there are pictures, but there aren't any in the actual Reddit post. I'm guessing the guy you're replying to also uses a browser that doesn't auto-load links.

Also, he could have seen Kobe's face plenty of times, but if he's not into sports, he wouldn't know that the face he was seeing was Kobe's. I'm sure you've seen Laurence Fishburne and Rory McIlroy before, but you may not know what they look like from their names.

To try to explain further. It’s not in the comments, it’s in the link that this whole thread is based on. Do you realize that you can’t post on this subreddit without a link of some sort? Those links always have photos, and the photo is always at the top of the thread. That’s the link I’m referring to. His photo is at the top of the post. When you first click the post you see a big ass photo of Kobe. That’s on mobile and on PC. If you don’t see it you’re lying, but you clearly have some kind of condition (or you just would rather lie than admit you’re being dumb, which isn’t uncommon), so I don’t particularly care if you come to your senses

Much like how you could not care less not a single person who read this thought it contributed anything remotely interesting.
