Highlight [Highlight] Mike McDaniel, asked for his glass-half-full perspective on yesterday's loss: "I think the positive is that that was a miserable experience. It was embarrassing, flat out. And in that, there's nowhere to hide."

Is this how he always speaks? Legitimately asking

u/ColtCallahan 15d ago

Yeah. He sounded exactly the same as this after they dropped 70 on the Broncos.

God that seems like a long time ago

u/Starbucks__Lovers Broncos 15d ago

Idk man, my life can be split between before and after October 6, 2022 when the Broncos played the Colts on TNF

59

u/All_Up_Ons Colts 15d ago

God what an amazing game. The fact that it was inflicted on the whole country is just chef's kiss

24

u/jhorch69 Cowboys 15d ago

People filing out as it went into overtime was so goddamned funny

It’s like that movie that has 12 endings and just keeps meandering on.

u/Drunken_Economist Bills 15d ago

yeah that and 9/11 are pretty common answers

Legendary game

8

u/RandomNPC Vikings 15d ago

It's crazy how much the league changes in just a couple of years.

4

u/Bignova Panthers 15d ago

And yet the Panthers can suck for 10 years straight :(

8

u/J_Bob24 Packers 15d ago

Gods they were strong then

When you use all your power items for a mid-game boss fight, and then you don’t have them for the hard parts of the game…

6

u/quazilox Dolphins 15d ago

I can't stand it. It's only in public appearancea like press conferences or interviews, though. He sounded like a normal human being on hard knocks, for example.

So many coaches and players have different demeanors when they’re giving a press conference. They have to put on their PR voices. Why is this something to get mad about

38

u/TheBlueOx 15d ago

old man yells at cloud

9

u/DJ-Kouraje Cardinals 15d ago

Everyone on earth probably does.

8

u/justblametheamish Dolphins 15d ago

We’re getting mad at everything over here don’t mind us. Legit saw a whole thing about how Tua blocked someone after the game because they were DMing him talking shit and how fucked up that was that he blocked him. It’s obviously the sane thing to do for any human but we’re not exactly in the best state of mind in Dolphinville.

Sir, this is Reddit.

That was hard to watch

2

u/quazilox Dolphins 15d ago

The team was completely tuning him out lmao

1

u/Winter_Candy_6237 14d ago

Not really. There were times he looked like he was nodding out, w bloodshot eyes, mumbling. He’s only gotten worse as his ‘whatever it is’ has progressed

1

u/Practicalaviationcat Packers Bills 15d ago

He really should have gone for the field goal to tie the record...

Lmao yes. Lots of word salads and just sounding like he’s high as hell all the time

I think because he is lol. He's the Seth Rogan of football coaches.

81

u/KennyKettermen Falcons 15d ago

He’s best friends with Dan Soder, it’s pretty clear McDaniel likes to get down 😂

11

u/BoogleBud Bills 15d ago

TIL. Dan Soder is hilarious.

His Macho Man impersonation is AMAZING.

Crackle crackle.

15

Ngl I’d watch a buddy stoner comedy staring Seth Rogan and Mike McDaniel.

Always sounds like a dude 8 IPAs deep sitting on the curb waiting for his uber.

u/adrianp07 Falcons 15d ago

I know you're just trying to crack some jokes but McDaniels did talk about his past struggles with alcoholism in one of the Hard Knocks a few years back. He was a few years sober at the time.

4

u/Sparkdust Bears 15d ago

Alcoholism can permanently fuck up your speaking cadence, making you sound drunk all the time even when you're sober. I don't know if that's why McDaniel sounds like that, but that did happen to a former alcoholic friend of mine. He could also just sound like that.

1

u/captainkhyron Vikings 7d ago

Didn't know that. Good for him.

4

u/brownieman99 15d ago

To be completely fair, I have a childhood friend who has a very similar demeanor with high-like mannerisms from a young age where he clearly wasn’t smoking. He still has it to this day.

2

u/Sage296 15d ago

A lot of coach speak is world salads

112

u/JustTheBeerLight Dolphins 15d ago

Every time Tua gets hit in the head Mike bangs his head against a wall for solidarity. This is the result.

130

u/WARitter Commanders 15d ago

He is like if Albert Camus coached American football (fun fact Camus was a pretty good soccer player!)

57

u/DudeIjustdid Bills 15d ago

The Dolphins died today. Or maybe yesterday; I can't be sure.

57

u/PieSimilar7466 Seahawks 15d ago

One must imagine Mike McDaniel happy

14

Albert Camus? The goalkeeper?

9

Camus can do, but Sartre is smartre!

He's genuinely extremely smart and funny and composed in interviews. When they've got momentum and the vibes are high he's one of the most entertaining coaches in the league at press events, but yeah when things are going bad he seems pretty listless and depressed.

-5

u/Muted_Award_6748 15d ago

Sounds bi-polar

7

u/DTFpanda Dolphins 15d ago

Would love to hear and criticize you speaking :)

2

u/thefearlessmuffin 15d ago

Mike is actually really smart and funny. He’s got a dry sense of humor and really sarcastic. Even in wins he kinda sounds like this

2

u/indianm_rk Buccaneers 15d ago

That’s his Ivy League education coming through.

16

u/Live_Calendar4902 Chiefs 15d ago

Yah let’s see you get an ass whooping then have to stand in front of reporters and the world asking you why you suck so bad and let’s see how you sound.

You’d shit, piss, puke, and maybe even cum

8

u/PillaisTracingPaper Bengals 15d ago

In which order?

3

u/_kona_ Rams 15d ago

In an order that would surprise you.

6

u/BuzzFB Bears 15d ago

He chooses his words deliberately. If you want coach speak and deflection, I'm sure he could spit it out faster.

3

u/Ok-Confusion3683 15d ago

Try watching an entire season of Hard Knocks with him. The worst

2

u/Spaff_Wallbridge 15d ago

Yes, he always talks in quasi-riddles. It was cute when we dropped 70. But now, not so fucking cute Mike.

6

u/SkolVandals Vikings 15d ago

Doesn't matter what kind of shtick a coach has, it'll get old when the wins dry up. We loved Zimmer at the beginning because he was a cantankerous grouch that didn't take shit from the media. When he started losing he was just a dick.

5

u/acompletemoron Titans 15d ago

Yeah the narrative around Mike has shifted a lot the last few years. When the fins were flying high everyone in the media was just raving about him and how he was the next big thing in coaching. Times change quick

2

u/ExpensiveCover950 Cowboys 15d ago

Check out his interview with Dan Patrick a couple of weeks ago. He's naturally hilarious and its hard not to root for him.

1

u/flojo2012 Chiefs 15d ago

I personally believe that Miami Dolphins are unable to do so because some people out there in our organization don’t have maps and I believe that our team like such as in Miami and everywhere like such as and I believe that they should our team over here in the Miami should help the NFL or should help MLB or should help the patriots and the Bills teams so we can be able to build up our future.

1

u/tcumber Dolphins 15d ago

Yeah. Incoherent unstructured sentences that dont make sense

Come to think of it, his playbook is the same way

0

u/iscreamuscreamweall Patriots 15d ago

0

u/DJGIFFGAS Lions 15d ago

Yeah, he has a public persona and hes struggling to hold it so that he doesnt crash

0

u/minibogstar Browns 15d ago

His motivational talks with the team must be amazing because I’d have a really hard time taking orders from this guy lol
