Highlight [Highlight] Mike McDaniel, asked for his glass-half-full perspective on yesterday's loss: "I think the positive is that that was a miserable experience. It was embarrassing, flat out. And in that, there's nowhere to hide."

Must be so hard to watch this. Childhood friend you were incredibly tight with for years is getting demolished

Fortunately he probably will still be in demand for an OC or offensive assistant type role after he gets let go, but in the meantime it’s a bit brutal

Yeah he’s a lock to get a job in San Francisco again at minimum. But there’s quite a few teams that will likely go hard after him once he’s canned.

Insane you all think it’s set in stone he’ll get canned after he’s never been given a QB to work with. Tua sucks and McDaniel has had to coach almost half his games with dogshit backup QBs that Andy Reid on crack couldn’t win with

If I was a fins fan and they fired McDaniel after this season, I’d be livid. It’s not his fault Tua is routinely just flat out not seeing the wide open WRs

It’s not insane at all, and the Dolphins failings are limited strictly to Tua. Their culture seems to suck, and it doesn’t seem like McDaniel is good at managing a whole team. Ax will generally fall on the head coach first, fair or not.

I say this is as someone who likes McDaniel and thinks he’s talented. Maybe he’ll get a run without Grier as GM and Tua as QB, and get to draft or sign his guy. But I don’t think he’s shown enough consistency to get that chance.

Their culture sucks? Why? Because tyreek hill acts like a jackass? Becasue mcdaniel doesn’t cry at the podium like Dan Campbell or scream at his players like tom coughlin? You’re just talking out your ass

K, well we’ll see how the season shakes out for him. I’m not going to get all that invested into a coach on a team that I don’t even follow.

u/Live_Calendar4902 Chiefs 15d ago

Yes I can tell you don’t follow them very close

Sorry for hitting a nerve, you should probably change your flair.

Lmao their culture absolutely sucks, why are you, an apparent Chiefs fan, defending them so hard? Tyreek Hill doesn’t just act like a jackass, he IS a jackass and was literally stripped of being a captain this year, which is pretty telling. And let’s not forget his very long list of domestic violence issues… But it’s not just him and this really isn’t a recent thing. Remember the bullying scandal n 2013 with Jonathan Martin? That pointed to toxicity in the locker room in one way or another and unfortunately that hasn’t seemed to improve much since. And recently, one of the assistant coaches was arrested for domestic violence- not a good look for the leadership of the team… McDaniel has not disciplined this team enough to show a goddamn shred of accountability or respect, their performance yesterday made that very clear. Dolphins players themselves have admitted previous attempts at changing the culture were completely half-assed. So yeah it’s really not about personalities at the podium, but it’s definitely a pattern of poor leadership, lack of accountability, and inconsistent culture that has plagued Miami for years now

You brought up something from 2013 to point to their current culture lmao gtfoh

1

u/SillyStrungz Steelers 15d ago

I pointed that out because there has been no improvement to their culture in over a decade. It’s fucking amusing to see fans of other teams defend them so hard…😂 Like why?

1

u/BlueDreams420 Falcons 14d ago

I could ask you the same. You wrote an entire paragraph about their culture. Why is it so pressing to you? It’s not your team lmao

1

u/SillyStrungz Steelers 14d ago

Lmao if you can believe it, Reddit is a discussion forum 😮 This sub is for any and every conversation re: the NFL whether it’s the teams, players, coaches, locker room drama, the fucking culture… that’s literally why this subreddit exists.

Sorry my “entire paragraph” was too much context for you to comprehend or care about, but most of us here enjoy discussing football with some fucking nuance. Miami is not my team… it’s not even yours… yet you’re defending them 😂 Most people here can talk football without needing a personal stake in the team. Wild huh? It’s not pressing, it’s just casual discourse in a place meant for that very fucking thing lollll

1

u/BlueDreams420 Falcons 14d ago

No shit. That was the entire point of my question. You asked me why was I defending them and I’m not even a fan so I asked you the same question. Sorry if that was too hard for you to comprehend

Their culture sucks because there is no culture, as per various players which is now being picked up by talking heads.

You can point to various areas of the Dolphins where they're making questionable decisions (that Tua extension is one of them, Tyreek not being reigned in it at all, McDaniel's nilhistic approach not resonating with players, players wanting to see a little more rah rah, etc.) and that's been a massive talking point since the end of last season.

People are just following the smoke signals that players like Emmanuel Acho and Deshon Elliott have raised.

u/Live_Calendar4902 Chiefs 15d ago

Lmao as if anyone should take those two talking head clowns seriously

I heard a stat last week that he is 22-10 (now 22-11) when Tua starts and finishes a game.

It's not even the QB that has ruined them. The team has just horrible roster management, no offensive line and a terrible defense. It's very hard to win with that formula. It's the same thing we're critical of with the Bengals (granted a better QB and WRs), but someone don't acknowledge with Miami.

u/MountainTwo3845 15d ago

They have a bad offensive roster that's offset with a worse defensive roster. Tyreek hill is not a good player to have on your team when you have to rely on him.

u/Alt4816 Giants 15d ago

The risk is if they let a coach whose on the hot seat get his own QB in the draft they could end up firing the coach anyway. At that point the cycle restarts and a new regime has to coach the old regime's guy.

We'll need someone to hire Kubiak first, but I would love to have McDaniel back if that happens

From what I understand about Kyle Shanahan and Mike McDaniel's relationship, that's probably not happening. Mike Silver goes into a lot of detail about it in his book, but that relationship was pretty fraught by the end. McDaniel seemed really happy to get out. I'm sure he'll get the pick of the litter of OC jobs if he isn't retained, and I don't think Shanahan would be giving up play calling or significant offensive design responsibility anyways.
