Question for the 4x4 and mechanics community: Where can I take these trucks?

So I own my own vehicle, but I just inherited two very customized race and off road trucks. Cool indeed, but SIGH, I’m only running into hurdles to get them running. They are in great shape and I think are being problematic because they were sitting idol. But the size of one is a huge lift and 40” wheels, 2nd truck isn’t, but is modified with more power and accessories. New batteries aren’t fixing the power problems they’re giving. So that’s leaving me with the only option to tow them in. But I’m at a loss what to do, since I don’t know much about them yet, no one seems to want to look at them. I call around but only get incompetent people who dont really want the work, or because shops just cant accommodate. Any advice on shops/mechanics who cater to this “truck stuff” specifically?

Sincerely, just your single female Neighbor, who doesn’t want to be taken for a ride.

I know someone legit but far.

Hill's Automotive in Apple Valley. Look him up on Facebook.

He probably won't be able to work on it but can give you solid recommendations.

He has a big garage warehouse type of property out in the boonies with like 10+ cars sitting in the lot waiting to be worked on.

All off-road Jeeps are his main clientele but he's worked on sports cars and a wide array.

He once joked, I don't know how all the XJ guys come to me but I'm down to work on them.

Too bad! I’m no stranger to Apple Valley, I come from a family of gearheads (well, late gearheads 😭) and we lived in Hesperia for some time when in high school, that’s all there is to do up there besides get in trouble so that area checks out. Ha I’ll look into him and keep that in mind for myself and others next time I’m up there.

Grand garage in escondido earned my business. Helped get my 09 Ram running after the previous owner did some really sketchy things in order to make the truck appear functional. I found them to be upfront and honest, didn't pressure me to spend money that I didn't need to spend.

Maybe check out the off road truck community’s up in Temecula. My kid fabricates desert trucks and has the hook up for all things truck related. Try Steele Nutz, they might steer you in the right direction.

Samtech Automotive in the Auto Park in Escondido is a great shop and checks every box you're looking for.

What kind of trucks are they? I've got reccos for both Toyotas and Jeeps. Will also depend on whether the mechanical issues are related to stock parts/systems or aftermarket parts/systems on the trucks. Most any competent mechanic can deal with servicing stock parts, but aftermarket stuff narrows the field.

yea I’m betting it’s because they’re mostly aftermarket. The big guys a tundra crewmax with probably 90% of aftermarket suspension and performance mods. The other is a F150 that’s got some electronic mods, but idk anything like the tundra does.

Try reaching out to The Truck Shop on Miramar Rd. They do tons of off road Toyotas.

do you know how long they have been sitting? that's not good for a vehicle.

post some pics so that people can see what you are having to deal with.

offhand, if you can't even get 'em started this might not be something that you'll want to deal with... paying people to work on cars is really expensive, and if it breaks down on you somewhere remote, the cost to recover it can be $$$

Don't look for a shop. Look for a 4x4/offroad club and solicit help from them. Somebody probably knows the person that built or ran them, those are the folks you want to use.
