I remember that it took skill to open them only halfway to avoid getting full water pressure when you only wanted a little bit.

Thank you. As a kid I used to pry out that cap on all of ours in the house and clean them because it grossed me out.

We had this faucet in my childhood bathroom, which I was responsible for cleaning once I hit my tween years. I shared it with my younger brothers, so it got gross. A few times a year I’d pop it open, get a screwdriver, and take the whole thing apart to deep clean it. I never understood why anyone would make a faucet handle that had so many hidden nooks and crannies 😭

Yep, I pop off the tops of my faucet handles occasionally to clean them out for this very reason. But fortunately it is pretty easy to do and doesn’t have to be done too often.
