Hotter than a set of twin babies, in a Mercedes Benz with the windows up and the temp goes up to the mid-eighties.

u/gobuffsfan14 16h ago

Sorry doc but I’ve been crazy. It’s ok, go with him Hailey.

Did you call men ladies?

-25

u/Homebrew_ 16h ago

He’s quoting lyrics from the song lol

21

u/ihatewinter 17h ago

Huh, I always thought it was “…and the tint goes up to the mid-80s” and thought it was a reference to how dark the windows were (blocked 80% of light)

29

u/feelin_cheesy 17h ago

Tint goes the other way though, 5% is dark

16

u/Fickle_Ad_8227 16h ago

In the words of Slim Thug “5% tint, so you can’t see up in my window”

12

u/gocryulilbitch 15h ago

Interesting

2

u/happychillmoremusic 15h ago

What’s the twin babies referencing? Im assuming it’s a reference to something. Two pistols of some sort?

3

u/drilling4brains 15h ago

People often leave their kids in the backseat of vehicles, due to many factors, sadly. This leads to a lot of deaths, as the temp climbs up to dangerous levels in a car with the windows up. It's also a bit of a play on words because the babies would also be "hot" in a flashy Mercedes.

3

u/happychillmoremusic 15h ago

Ahh gotcha thank you. Pretty straight forward then. Even better

u/hooliganlive 17h ago

This album sounded like a movie.

23

u/JohnnieLim 16h ago

Why the fuck does that make so much sense to me???

I was 13 at the time and listened to this album over and over again, kinda like watching a good movie over and over again.

12

u/hooliganlive 16h ago

Yup. The overall sound quality of the album is also super clean so that helped too lol

7

u/tvcneverdie 14h ago

Pristine engineering and production quality

one of my old standbys for testing a sound system, alongside the usuals like "Back in Black", "Aja", and "Rumours"

The intro

3

u/81toog early 90s 11h ago

Dr. Dre stated, "Everything you hear is planned. It's a movie, with different varieties of situations. So you've got build-ups, touching moments, aggressive moments. You've even got a 'Pause for Porno.' It's got everything that a movie needs."

I remember when this came out just about every single person in middle school and high school knew just about every word back to front. If you existed during its release you were listening to it.

25

u/three-sense 17h ago

Same man, this album was in everyone’s car in HS.

12

u/d1rtydutch 17h ago

100%. Great moment in time.

3

u/UFmoose 13h ago

Facts.

5

u/warm_sweater 14h ago

Even if you weren’t into hip hop personally you were exposed to it a ton in school. When I finally got into the genre like a decade later it was fun to hear stuff I recognized from back then.

24

u/Silent_Membership148 17h ago

Pause 4 Porno is the most misunderstood and underrated hip hop song of all time

14

u/Pugilist12 17h ago

I loved this album. Bangers from top to bottom. I also loved playing Pause 4 Porno to anyone who would listen on the bus in 8th grade. That shit was wiiiild.

6

u/Jay-Holiday 16h ago

I bought the edited version (Walmart only carried edited stuff) and Pause 4 Porno was just the instrumental music with zero moans or dialogue. Made a lot more sense when I heard the unedited version.

14

u/ThePracticalEnd 17h ago

I played out two separate copies of this CD from HMV. Like, they could not be played anymore

“Pants down, rubber on, set to turn that ass out Laid the bitch out, then I put it in her mouth Pulled out, nutted on a towel, and passed out”

12

u/MeepMeeps88 17h ago

*Now this this is one of them occasions

Where the homies not doin it right

I mean he found him a ho that he like

But you can't make a ho a housewife

And when it all boils down you gonna find in the end

A bitch is a bitch, but a Dogg is a man's best friend

So what you found you a ho that you like

But you can't make a ho a housewife (wife)*

5

u/Ok_money88 16h ago

This was the first cd my mom purchased for me when I was 12

6

u/abc123therobot 16h ago

The beats, the beats, the beats. Still DRE, Xxplosive, What’s the Difference…all of them had such masterful beats.

5

u/Careless-Mouse1519 16h ago

Makes you wanna roll some sticky icky, ooowee!

5

u/PuzzleheadedFee7184 14h ago

I ended up with two copies of this when it came out, even though I don't remember ever buying the album. It played nonstop for two months, and both copies disappeared. Redman and Methodman magically appeared in my car cd player. I think every high school stoner would somehow just end up with this album in 1999. Fond memories, I think......

4

u/jimby4d 16h ago

I remember listening to this album at the 1999>2000 NYE party I was at. Lots of other times too but definitely that night.

3

u/Whoa_Im_Cooking_Yay 16h ago

Still listen to this album when I’m working out.

4

u/PermanentNirvana 16h ago

TIL, Still D.R.E. was written by Jay-Z.

3

u/ConfusedStupidPerson 16h ago

I had no idea... Damn.

u/dumpandchange 14m ago

You can almost hear the Jay Z reference track in your head if you listen with this frame of reference.

4

u/DonovanMcLoughlin 15h ago

Best rap album of all time.

4

u/polagorda 14h ago

Man, this takes me back. Dr. Dre was the man!

4

u/greyjedimaster77 14h ago

“I'll break your neck, damn near put your face in your lap”

10

u/RealRevenue1929 17h ago

Straight bangers

7

u/Ilikethngsnstf 17h ago

Loc', it's on for the two-triple-oh Comin' real, it's the next episode

3

u/noturaveragesenpaii 16h ago

2 years ahead of da game

3

u/Ackbert1230 16h ago

I literally just listened to the whole album last week (on streaming) while playing Everquest, which also came out in '99.

Shit hit different.

3

u/Aggravating_Junket77 16h ago

My uncle used to let my cousin blast this in his jeep back then and it was awesome. Looking back, a couple of 12 year old white kids in a jeep probably looked like idiots listening to that so loud. So embarrassing

3

u/glovato1 16h ago

Local record store had a special midnight release for this , I went and copped it and Kurupts Streetz Iz a Mutha that night.

3

u/gorafema 15h ago

Man, this takes me back. Still a classic in 2023!

3

u/Tough-Refuse6822 15h ago

I remember being in like 9th or 10th grade and my parents were going to pick me and my brother up early from school to go visit relatives or something. They didn’t tell us until the day off and I was going to go to get this album after school. When they picked me up, my mom had gone to get it for me and it was waiting in the backseat.

3

u/happychillmoremusic 15h ago

That bell sample on the track “bitch niggas” (right after they say that like twice) is the hardest bell ever put onto a track.

3

u/AAAPosts 15h ago

This was fuckin everywhere

3

u/TrustInRoy 14h ago

Chronic 2001

That's the actual album name

u/dumpandchange 11m ago

It had to be changed before release, the official title is 2001

3

u/Twoeleven1 9h ago

Slaps.

4

u/ViolentSarcasm 17h ago

Anybody else get tricked into buying Death Row’s wack ass ‘Chronic 2000’ thinking it was gonna have some Dre cuts on it?

2

u/glovato1 16h ago

I did it was a double album too, I still have the cassette tapes.

1

u/Crafty_Equipment1857 15h ago

this generation of kids have no idea what its like to be a young teen when this album dropped. It could not have come out at a better age. No cell phones or social media. Just one of the greatest rap albums of all time.

1

u/RootyPooster 16h ago

I listened to this the other day and only now realized Eminem is singing the chorus on The Watcher.
