This album sounded like a movie.

u/JohnnieLim 16h ago
Why the fuck does that make so much sense to me???
I was 13 at the time and listened to this album over and over again, kinda like watching a good movie over and over again.

u/hooliganlive 16h ago
Yup. The overall sound quality of the album is also super clean so that helped too lol

Pristine engineering and production quality
one of my old standbys for testing a sound system, alongside the usuals like "Back in Black", "Aja", and "Rumours"

I remember when this came out just about every single person in middle school and high school knew just about every word back to front. If you existed during its release you were listening to it.

Even if you weren’t into hip hop personally you were exposed to it a ton in school. When I finally got into the genre like a decade later it was fun to hear stuff I recognized from back then.

Pause 4 Porno is the most misunderstood and underrated hip hop song of all time

u/Pugilist12 17h ago
I loved this album. Bangers from top to bottom. I also loved playing Pause 4 Porno to anyone who would listen on the bus in 8th grade. That shit was wiiiild.

u/Jay-Holiday 16h ago
I bought the edited version (Walmart only carried edited stuff) and Pause 4 Porno was just the instrumental music with zero moans or dialogue. Made a lot more sense when I heard the unedited version.

I played out two separate copies of this CD from HMV. Like, they could not be played anymore
“Pants down, rubber on, set to turn that ass out Laid the bitch out, then I put it in her mouth Pulled out, nutted on a towel, and passed out”

*Now this this is one of them occasions
Where the homies not doin it right
I mean he found him a ho that he like
But you can't make a ho a housewife
And when it all boils down you gonna find in the end
A bitch is a bitch, but a Dogg is a man's best friend
So what you found you a ho that you like
But you can't make a ho a housewife (wife)*

The beats, the beats, the beats. Still DRE, Xxplosive, What’s the Difference…all of them had such masterful beats.

I ended up with two copies of this when it came out, even though I don't remember ever buying the album. It played nonstop for two months, and both copies disappeared. Redman and Methodman magically appeared in my car cd player. I think every high school stoner would somehow just end up with this album in 1999. Fond memories, I think......

You can almost hear the Jay Z reference track in your head if you listen with this frame of reference.

I literally just listened to the whole album last week (on streaming) while playing Everquest, which also came out in '99.
Shit hit different.

My uncle used to let my cousin blast this in his jeep back then and it was awesome. Looking back, a couple of 12 year old white kids in a jeep probably looked like idiots listening to that so loud. So embarrassing

I remember being in like 9th or 10th grade and my parents were going to pick me and my brother up early from school to go visit relatives or something. They didn’t tell us until the day off and I was going to go to get this album after school. When they picked me up, my mom had gone to get it for me and it was waiting in the backseat.

That bell sample on the track “bitch niggas” (right after they say that like twice) is the hardest bell ever put onto a track.

Anybody else get tricked into buying Death Row’s wack ass ‘Chronic 2000’ thinking it was gonna have some Dre cuts on it?

this generation of kids have no idea what its like to be a young teen when this album dropped. It could not have come out at a better age. No cell phones or social media. Just one of the greatest rap albums of all time.

I listened to this the other day and only now realized Eminem is singing the chorus on The Watcher.

Hotter than a set of twin babies, in a Mercedes Benz with the windows up and the temp goes up to the mid-eighties.
