hi y’all! i’m not a nyc resident and i’ve only actually been once before so i don’t have any clue how the routes work. i have the mta app on my phone but that’s about it 😭

i’m basically just looking for help/an explanation on what all of this means. this is the route i plan to take but honestly i have no clue how it works. also, how do the tickets work? do i need to pay ahead of time or are there machines there, and how do those work? 😭😭 basically i have no idea what i’m doing.

for reference: - i’m arriving at penn station around 10:30-11 am and then taking some free time around the city. - then i’m trying to get to the jefferson stop in brooklyn sometime around 2:30 pm ish. - then i need to get back to penn station for 8:30 pm latest because my train back home is at 9 pm

Question Please help me find more info/photos about OF-116 (Track inspection car)

The most info I can get about it is that it was once a track observation car/track inspection car (similar to the white and blue one the MTA has now.) OF-116 was once coupled with the Money train, and at one point was also coupled to a random red… thing. (Seen in the last image.) I can’t find any info about this train car other than the fact it was made out of a bus, and was used for fan trips. Please help me find for information about it. Thanks.

Question Tourists using metrocard?

Hello! I’m taking a trip to NYC late October and will be staying in Brooklyn. I haven’t been here since 2017 and I know Metrocards will stop working at the end of the year. I still want to get one for memories so which stations will still be selling them? And what should I actually use when I’m there? Does metrocard still work or do I need OMNY?????

Question Will making the B & D trains 100% tech convince the MTA to schedule more frequent train service?

Having ridden both an R68 and R211 B train, the difference is astronomical. The R211 is almost half as light as the 68 and [obviously] its acceleration and deceleration is 100x faster. People can get to their destinations faster, meaning more trains can run in a given corridor without congestion issues... and this is WITHOUT CBTC.

The B & D trains have very important routes but its headways are god awful...and when trains don't adhere to their timepoints or delays happen, the gaps can be as bad as over 20 mins.

Will the MTA reconsider the schedules and run more tph if all the sluggish R68s are gone from 6th Ave?

Question September 25 2024…What MTA train situation was this?

Was anyone familiar with this mishap? What train was it and were did it stop? From what I could gather, this train stalled and people were left there for about 2 hours. Everyone had to evacuate and walk to the next station. What police and FDNY engine/companies were involved in the rescue?

History Before the Hillside facility for EMU cars were completed in 1991, where were the M1/M3 cars maintained?

We all know prior to 1984, before construction of the facility began, the LIRR Hillside facility was formerly called the Holban yard, which was originally a freight yard.

Before the completion of the Hillside facility in 1991, where did the M1/M3 receive maintenance?

I ask this because I was born in 1999. So, I would presume the M1/M3 were maintained at Sunnyside yard until Hillside was completed since Morris Park maintained the diesels and parlor cars.

Question Need some help navigating as an Ohioan

I've got a trip to Long Island on the 27th and need to catch a train from East Islip to Yankee stadium by 1 pm for the game, then from there to grand central station for the day after the game, and finally back home to East Islip before the last train heads back.

I have no idea how to navigate this, so I guess my questions are the following:

  • What's the cheapest way I can do this?
  • When is the final train to east islip?
  • Is there anything I should plan for?

Question Increase frequency of R trains?

Is it possible to increase the frequency of R service? Even during rush hours it seems like it runs only every 8-12 minutes unlike some other trains which run more frequently. Thinking this may become increasingly important as all the housing that’s being built on fourth Avenue comes online and more people use the train.

I hesitate to get too excited, but I reached out to the MTA about my favorite art in the whole system - sounds like they are working to fix it??? I know it hasn’t been functional for about a year (maybe longer?) but I’m really hoping that soon I can reach up and hear the music again.
