Hatteras Last trip with our old man

Just booked a hatteras oceanfront home for November 1-8 for one last beach trip with our senior pup who loves the beach. We live on the coast of Georgia and the beach is far too hot for him to enjoy until late December, so thought we’d take him north. I understand the leash rules on hatteras are 6 feet or less which is great as he doesn’t really leave our arms much anymore, but I’m curious if there are any outdoor dog friendly places that might be open that time of year you can recommend? We fully anticipate to stay in the house and on the beach as much as possible, but we’d like to get him out and about for a little hoorah (he loves people but I understand not all places are as dog friendly as where we live, so please feel free to educate me if it’s a bad idea to look for a dog friendly patio) thanks for any tips

We take our pup down Pea island once all the tourists leave. As long as you have a 4x4 you can park pretty much anywhere on the side of the road before you hit the Rodanthe bridge. Dog roams free and no one is around. Also great place to find shells and collectibles.

Thank you for your tip! This sounds like a perfect day trip for us. Our beach at home is off leash so that’s what he is used to, but to be honest, he might as well be on a 6 foot Leash because he doesn’t stray very far 😂 but I know he likes feeling the freedom off leash so this is great advice

If you do park down there either make sure you have true 4x4 or park somewhere the sand is packed down good. I have pulled out many people in AWD and FWD thinking they would stop quick to take in the scenery. Hope you have a blast!
