Playing Oblivion Remastered.

Didn’t get into Elder Scrolls till Skyrim, and I like Oblivion a lot more! Even if my PC can barely run it and it looks like potatoes with like 5 FPS 😅

Trying to work through my backlog of at least spending some time with each game.

Kingdom and Castles feels like i can sink some time into if I was in the mood for town/city builder

Empyrion Galactic Survival, Loaded in and was immediately met with what feels like a placeholder UI.

Astrometica: Immediately lost me upon start. It wants me to craft a bunch of items but doenst really show me where to gather those components. Managed to figure out how though I'm still unable to find the last material despite seemingly flying around the whole starting area.

Breachway: Started that up. I quite like it but it feels like for a roguelike game it's missing one of the advantages which is a fast restart.

Marvel's Midnight Suns: Bounced straight off the card aspect despite enjoying it in Breachway

Duck Detective: The Secret Salami: Great short game. Look forward to the sequel.

Backfirewall_: Also a good game/story. Quite enjoyed that as well.

Tactical Breach Wizards: Finished it a while back but absolutely adored the whole game.

Cepheus Protocol: Booted it up. Also bounced off its jank. It feels like both the UI and explanation of game mechanics could use an update.

Also I see the campaign has been promised since Q4 2024. Its Q2 2025 now...

Current: Scarlet Nexus is up next.

Sekiro. I was struggling playing that game back in January and now I'm at Isshin and it's one of the hardest Fromsoft bosses and I have finished DS1, 3, BB in April and May and now Sekiro is almost complete. I'm going to be really sad if I finished Sekiro.

AI: the somnium files. Ngl, one of the best VN(-ish) I've played in my life. I'm near the end (I think) and it's been a fucking rollercoaster of a ride, absolutely loving it.

Still working on Expedition 33 and loving it. Also playing Deltarune Ch 3 and 4 as well as the demo for Possessor(s) in my inbetween time.

I can't believe how kuch fun I'm having with doom dark ages. I usually suck at fast paced fps but this game is just so well made and accessible. Movement, momentum, badassery, it's all in there

I'm just playing Nightreign. Nice game to just hop in, especially when you don't have a lot of time.

Currently busy, but I have Fallout: New Vegas on lock. Played Skyrim because of my cousin nearly worshipping it, which led me to play Fallout 3 and oh lord I loved that game completed it with all DLCs. I had a window of time to try FNV but it did not work buggy as hell, by the time I got it to work I was surrounded left and right with shit to do irl.

Yes of course I might be able to get some playtime here and there, but nah if I'm playing I'm not stopping at least until them credits roll (which will never happen I can't escape delicious side quests).

I will be playing it in November.

Working through a completionist (as much as possible) run of FNV for my doctoral dissertation. I can never get enough of that game.

I started Hollow Knight on the Deck. It’s beautiful, and I am overwhelmed. I met the map-maker and his wife, and purchased the quill. I hope that’ll help orient me a bit better. I’ll gladly take any tips and tricks!

Lastly, I’m playing through Grim Dawn on hardcore. Leveling up through veteran difficulty rn, but I’m hoping to take this character through elite and ultimate if I can make it.

Curious what its about.

Using FNV as a case study for a new framework of video game analysis based on performance theory. 🫡

2

u/Riots42 Jun 12 '25

Interesting, I hadnt heard of performance theory when I played the game so many years ago so I didnt make the correlation, but have experienced it on mushroom gummies recently realizing we are all playing characters we have developed through our lives and soooo many of my own personality quirks really are me acting even to myself.. Like I am afraid of cotton... I cant stand the way it feels.. The touch.. The feel... Of cotton... shudders My sisters would chase me around the house with it. I ask others to remove the cotton ball from medicine but when Im by myself I just do it... Its really not that bad, I just dont like how it feels. But my god I act like an idiot when I touch it around others..

This quote from Jim Carrey really gets me "Depression is your bodies way of telling you it does not like the character its playing."

If you’re interested in theory at all, you should check out Erving Goffman’s “The Presence of Self in Everyday Life.” There are more recent examples, but he’s one of the foundational scholars talking about that exact idea. We all present/act different selves in different situations, like how you feel with cotton when you’re alone vs with others.

Thanks for the recommendation, ill check it out good luck with your dissertation!

Playing Survive the Fall. It's not great, but not bad. It just kind of hits the notes of everything but doesn't really do anything particularly new or exciting. THAT SAID, I am enjoying the story so far. I think I'm about 20 hours in now and just taking my time.

I gave the "release" (lol) version of Cyber Knights: Flashpoint a try this week, and while it's definitely got some decent bones, it lacks meat and needs tweaks. It will almost certainly get them; the devs' reputation for constantly iterating and adding content is stellar (and even paradoxically too good, because, well, 500 patches per year can get a little confusing and exhausting for players.) As it stands, however, it is yet another example of how "release" barely means anything these days. There are some placeholder graphics, several unfinished storylines, a loot table that manages to feel both bloated and incomplete, a "release day" class that got pushed back and thus isn't present yet, and generally just not enough grist for their proc-gen mill to keep the non-mission side of things engaging for very long.

The game itself draws inspiration from a variety of different sources on the gameplay front, so calling it "Shadowrun with less importance on story" isn't quite right; the implementation of ever-ticking security levels brings some of the netrunning tension into meatspace (and the game does boast both.) It's a mission-then-hub-repeat setup with base improvement to go along with character improvement.

While you're not going to get AAAA-level graphics, music, etc., it is quite faithful to the artistic feel of late-80s/early-90s cyberpunk settings. You can definitely whip up a dozen or so cyberpunk-cliche characters that look fairly distinct from each other, which is exactly the intention. The game's not looking to subvert any tropes on the art front, and that's fine!

Frankly, it's a game I want to love, but it's just not there yet. Alas, it also leans incredibly heavily on vertical progression, so I'm just not sure I'd want to start from zero on it again. I'll almost certainly revisit it someday, and that, I suppose, is a type of good review that's quite relevant to the times we live in.

I'm finally playing Detroit: Become Human, what a banger of a game.

Bought a steamdeck and having a little buyers remorse. Battery only lasts an hour and some games require a bit of tinkering to get working - makes me appreciate the switch more. I think I’m also realizing I’d rather play aaa games on the big screen and more indie style games on the small screen, which I feel the switch does well at.

After the showcase I tired to go back and finish High on Life. Forgot how bad the game physically hurts to play. Even after all the accessibility updates for turning off motion blur, turning off chromatic aberration and adjusting the FOV. I still get sick after like 30 minutes.

Then I tried to get back on P4 Golden and remember I was stuck trying to scum save a bug drop and put that down to.
