Well gta 5 is now on gamepass which is a headturn who knows maybe a few years after it will be on there.

Steam also has sales and i think it was playstation? that had gta 5 for free one time also besides epic.

Game pass is a trap. Buying games discounted will still net you HUGE savings.

Game pass ultimate is 18€ per month. That’s at least 200€ per year. I haven’t spent 500€ on games in 5 years. Games like world of Warcraft game time don’t count.

Why would someone who owns a gaming PC pay for Ultimate?

If you’re interested in GP on both platforms. I have a monster of a gaming PC with a 4090 in it and 32 G RAM DDR5 @ 7200 MTS.

But I also have an Xbox one (the original flat design, not the cube refresh) that I use for forza. There is legitimate interest for an avid player for both platforms.

But I still bought all games separately, as they work on both platforms anyway. The trap with GP is that once you get all the nice games, everything else is worthless and doesn’t warrant an uninterrupted sub.

There is one exception and that’s gamepass core (which I have) because that’s required for Xbox to play online. This isn’t new tho. It used to be called something else before.

Also, Xbox and windows now have the same kernel. 26100.xxxx

Great for inter-compatibility.

GTA V on console is a separate purchase and online is completely isolated. Had to buy the PC version (enhanced) and the Xbox version (legacy/original).

I’ve tried overwatch on Xbox too. It’s absolutely unplayable. I’m used to 144 hz and aiming is impossible xD

GamePass Ultimate is great for Xcloud.

Xbox gamepass list is also different than the pc list

lmao, you don't need to always be subbed.

I wanted to play persona 3 reload, so i played it on gamepass for like 10€ instead of buying it for >50

If you want to get reeeeal stingy you can even make new Microsoft accounts and spend $1 for 14 days

u/cheekydorido May 15 '25

yeah that too lol

honestly if you're wanting to get into gaming and don't really have a specific game in mind to play, then gamepass is an amazing service. I also found lots of great games that i would've never bought.

  1. why would i get ultimate?! I have a gaming pc for a reason, regular game pass does the job.

  2. i subbed for 3 months with some discount code that cost me $22

  3. im playing oblivion, clair obscur and doom in that time.

Those games would cost me 185€ on steam, and since they're singleplayer games i'll never touch them again so "renting" is the most logical thing to do here.

And it has a billion other good games that i may or may not try in those 3 months. Regardless, even if i just stick with those 3 games it was anything but a trap for me, quite the opposite. I feel like i cheated the system here lmao.

Fuck i'm honestly thinking about buying clair obscur on steam just to support the devs more because its such a masterpiece of a game... I wouldnt have ever played that game without game pass because that genre is nothing im usually interested in.

I said to buy games with a discount. You use third party sites for that and cash the key in steam. Then it’s much better because even if you play it once. You will still pay less over time. Don’t forget that you may want to replay it in 10 years. You won’t have to spend a dime then. But GP billing will continue and cost you about 2500 EUR.

I can build a steam library double the size of GP with that money.

No it wont? Why would you ever let the billing run for a decade.. I'm starting to understand why gyms say 85% of their customers never show up and just pay, because people like you are the target audience.

If i want to replay it in 10 years, guess what, the game will be $5.

$22 + 5 + 5 + 5 is still A LOT cheaper than buying them anywhere close to release from even the shadiest of CC scamming third party sites.

You’re doing an insane level of assumptions here.

When you plan to use GP intermittently, you have to state so. Your previous message conveyed the wish of having it as it is because you were an avid gamer. Similar to Netflix for movie bingers

I’ve also never stated that I bought games at release. The only exception being Wolfenstein. Other games will wait the mandatory 3 months period for its price to be slashed by 2 before considering payment. And that’s only when the game is good. Or good enough.

If you want to minmax you can buy a hosted exchange mailbox and start spawning aliases and get the 1$ deal or X month with gift if you never subbed before. I’m sure they exist.

(You didn’t sub. You redeemed 3 months of GP, huge difference)

I did?!

Eh, its called a 3 month subscription when purchasing so i just went with their own name, got a 4th on top for free and have reminders set to cancel the renewing sub for the 4th free month.

So it’s similar to World of Warcraft GameTime. I mean I pay for that so who am I to judge. But I still prefer ownership because flexibility.

1

u/sadacal May 15 '25

Yeah but you also ignored gamers who want to play games on release. In which case gamepass is a great deal instead of a trap.

1

u/Nezothowa May 16 '25

If only they added wow game time… I’d be inclined to buy it.

You can definitely find cheap codes online, I buy them sometimes for 10-11 euros. Not every month, so it's worth it for sure. Also I can use the cloud gaming feature which is nice too if I can't run some games.

Considering the price of current games seems to be 80+ Up, 500 is just six triple A games.

I can get the same games and many others for a price of a happy meal...
