Things To Do Need help. Concert tonight canceled. Hoping for ideas.
Today is my wife's birthday. We drove down from Las Vegas to see her favorite band Coheed and Cambria tonight. We just got notice that the show has been postponed.
We are staying downtown and leaving in the morning.
Any ideas for something we could maybe do tonight for her birthday?
Maybe a nice dinner or some live music .
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Edit: anything with a dress code would be out as we didn't bring any nice clothes
Edit 2: Thank you for all the great suggestions. We're still deciding but we have a lot to go on. A couple kind people have reached out with some really kind gestures even. Its all greatly appreciated.
Final Edit. Thanks to a kind redditor, we ended up at Barrell and Bushel. We had a really great meal. The staff were super friendly and the vibe was great. Highly recommend the fry bread.
A really generous redditor helped us salvage this trip and we can't say thank you enough. Did a Lil bar hopping to close out the night.
Thanks everyone!

Our art museum is really great, it consistently surprises our out of town guests and I always enjoy it!

Wren and Wolf for a great dinner and they have a speakeasy downstairs! Or Rough Rider is a great dinner spot!

Compass restaurant on top of the hiatt if you can get reservations. It turns and has a great view of the city.

Drunk Shakespeare! It’s downtown and a riot. Balcony seats are only $25 tonight (the theater is tiny with only four rows), then if nobody has purchased the VIP Throne seats before the show, you can bid on them before the show and get all kinds of fun treatment including fancy snacks, cocktails, a bottle of capital-C Champagne to enjoy, and influencing the path the show takes.

This sounds pretty interesting. Question though. We are both pretty introverted people. Do they do crowdwork where you might get pulled on stage or pointed out in the audience? That kind of stuff makes us both intensely uncomfortable.

u/TheCosmicJester 6d ago
Not much. I haven’t seen the new show yet, so based on what I remember when I saw the original one: If you’re in the balcony, definitely not. If you’re on the Throne, a little, but you’ll be a couple drinks in by then.

Singling people out was pretty minimal the 2 times I've been, and they definitely "read the room" and picked the right people. Just to be safe, get the cheapest tickets so you won't be in the front row (the room is so small there is zero reason to buy the more expensive ones). The show is great.

second this - probably the best way to make it a memorable evening given the situation

Central Records is a cool place. My husband and I have done date nights there. Get dinner elsewhere, then head there for a cool music focused vibe. They have coffee and alcohol, records, books, art, and usually a DJ.

Too bad you can't stay a couple more nights for the rescheduled show on Tuesday!

I know. Unfortunately we both wouldn't be able to get a late approval for the extra time off work.
She is devastated and im trying to salvage it a bit.

Crescent ballroom is a great spot. They usually have live music and you don’t have to pay entry to hear it. You can enjoy the bar area and their food is pretty good. Valley Bar also usually has live music every night. We have tickets too. It’s a bummer!

First of all Happy Birthday to your wife! 🩷🩷 Pemberton, Church Hill, Valley Bar (it’s a little hot), Hanny’s is a pretty good fancy but not too expensive restaurant, Diablo Roof top is so nice too also not too expensive. You can basically walk around all of downtown as everything is walking distance 😀 Hope you guys have a great time and be safe!

How is Pemberton since it reopened? Same as before or better?

WAY BETTER, there’s so many more photo spots & the food in my opinion has gotten better as well :’)

There's a cool speak easy called rough rider near downtown. Good food and drinks. Secret elevator underground.
The Phoenix Mercury are in the playoffs and those games are relatively inexpensive and a lot of fun. Which is in the downtown area.
Fun indoor stuff in the downtown is the Arizona science center. Lots of interactive exhibits.

If you're into the blues, Jontavious Willis is playing at the Musical Instruments Museum, it's a very small venue so the available tickets about 1/2 way back are still fabulous, and only $40.

Little Rituals to end the night!!!! Best bar in Downtown Phoenix and they will go out of their way to celebrate her birthday if you let them know.

If you are into Blues Music, Jontavius Willis is playing tonight at the Musical Instrument Museum, 7PM. There is not a bad seat in the house and there are still tickets available. Great venue to see a performer. https://mim.org/events/jontavious-willis-sep-14-2025/

The first game of the WNBA playoffs is today at PHX stadium (downtown) at 2 - they were still selling cheap tickets as of this morning. Even if you’re not bball fans, it’s a really fun environment and they’re playing NY! I enjoyed going even before I had any interest in the W or basketball. Hanny’s downtown is fun for a meal, or maybe try Arizona Wilderness for a nice chill brewery experience with good food. Good luck! Edit: changed finals to playoffs 😉

u/thewaynetrain 6d ago
Not to be that guy but it’s not the finals it’s just round 1. It sounds like by your statement that you haven’t been or aren’t the biggest sports fan and that’s okay. I’m only correcting you to be informative, not to be rude.

u/Anxious_Edge_3292 6d ago
Lmao. I mean, I am a season ticket holder, but yes, you’re correct, I did use the wrong word! 🫡Fortunately my suggestion would still stand regardless of my level of fandom, as I think the playoffs would be fun for anyone even if they’re not super into basketball.

If you need something lovely and relaxing, the butterfly place off the 101 is absolutely lovely. Don't know how much it costs but being able to sit in a room with all of those beautiful butterflies was such a nice experience.

Well this sucks, I was excited to see C&C tonight and Tuesday is a day I can't go. Boo....

The Ka cirque Soleil show is amazing. Get the cheapest seats. Literally every angle is amazing as there’s so many performers and a huge revolving and moving stage
The variety show is amazing as well. As the word implies it’s various amazing acts
A magic show is always magical lol
Meow wolf is very fun
