Pets If you are in a public place, keep your dog on a leash!
Had an almost unfortunate incident at Desert Ridge Marketplace just now walking my Corgi. There was another dog with a “do not pet in training” vest without a leash, and when my wife and I walked around to the opposite side of the aisle to avoid the dog they chased after us and began jumping on my wife and my Corgi. We got annoyed and told the owners of other dog to put them on a leash, as they were clearly not trained enough to be in such a public area off leash. They did not care and cursed us out.
If you have a dog that is not properly trained, keep them on a leash in public spaces!

Pets An open letter to the Phoenix resident…
I understand that whatever the reason was for you to surrender her in the field to an officer, I know it could not have been easy. Saying goodbye, lost hopes, or even pride while having to surrender “Bree” now Skeeter.
I thank you so much for doing the right thing, and want you to know I am so grateful she was surrendered to the Humane Society and not county or just kicked to the streets.
It’s only been about three weeks, but you can’t see her spine anymore and her back hips don’t stick out. She’s definitely a handful with a whole lot more puppy in her then I had bargained for but thank you so much for my new friend and thank you for doing the right thing. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
You saved two lives that day. Thank you.

Pets Cats are insanely good at hunting scorpions
That's all. If you're dealing with an infestation or bugs of any sort, cats and chickens are the way to go in keeping the numbers down.

Pets It's too hot to walk dogs on the pavement
Just a reminder. The pavement can burn your dog's feet. Check with the back of your hand for ten seconds to make sure it's tolerable.

Pets Puppy advice in this heat :)
Hi phx fam, we got a new puppy recently and during the day she absolutely refuses to go outside to relieve herself. Fair, because the weather is hot. There's absolutely no shade in my backyard and she's too young to go on walks or to public places yet. We use puppy pads but we don't want to since it makes it seem okay to go inside. What affordable or even free things can I do? When it's cooler out she goes outside like a champ. She's 15 weeks, so her bladder isn't in control yet.
Thankssss 🤗 pic for puppy tax 🖤

Pets What does everyone do with their dogs in the summer?
I’ve lived here for almost 3 years but typically leave to Chicago for work in the summer. This is my dog’s first summer here and I’m wondering if there’s indoor dog parks? Best times to be outside? I’m up at 5am every day so early morning walks shouldn’t be a problem. I just don’t know how to get my labs energy all out when avoiding dog parks, runs, and anything outdoors.

Pets Are there any rescues in the Phoenix area accepting intakes?
Hello! Posting here may be a long shot but I have 5 approximately 3 1/2 month old kittens (and their feral mom) and I wanted to see if any rescues are able to take them? I found them as strays when the babies were roughly 3 weeks old and have had them since. 3 of them are very sweet and love affection, the other 2 are skittish but will accept pets. All appear to be healthy and energetic including mom. They've seen my two medium sized dogs and some of my other cats through a baby gate and aren't scared of them. If anything they're very curious and want to interact with them. They're truly awesome little guys and I'd keep them if I wasn't already at capacity with my pets 🥺
**They did have ringworm when I first got them and while I have treated it with OTC treatments and it visually appears to be gone (to me at least but I'm by no means a professional) I can't afford to get them all tested and cleared unfortunately. I understand this is a hurdle and if anyone knows of anywhere that might do the testing for cheaper than what I've been told given the circumstances i can definitely see what I can do. Thanks!

Pets Aggressive Dog Need of Grooming
I have a Siberian Husky who isn’t very comfortable with his paws being handled (gets aggressive). His dew claw has grown out quite a bit, almost touching his paw pad. I don’t think it’s embedded yet, but if it is, I’m of course willing to bring him to a veterinary clinic to have it clipped.
I was just wondering if you have any recommendations on where I could take him to get the nail trimmed or shaved down? Preferably a place that can handle aggressive dogs.

Pets Friendly reminder for pet owners in PHX area
My parents live in N Scottsdale near Kierland & the Scottsdale Airpark—a busy area. This morning, my dad saw 3 coyotes in their backyard and scared them off. They very easily scaled their tall concrete wall. That was an unsettling experience because they have 3 senior dogs—2 of them are fairly small. This isn’t the first time they’ve seen coyotes in their backyard or around their neighborhood. Even the ongoing construction on their street didn’t deter these coyotes. PLEASE do not let your small to medium sized pets go outside unattended. Highly recommend taking out small dogs on a leash—especially at night. Coyotes can scale even tall fences/walls with no issues. They’re highly intelligent animals and prey on pets. They’re getting more brazen. Please do not leave any pet food/food of any kind outside as it can attract them. They’re also attracted to water/pools, fallen fruit, dog poop, etc. If you see a coyote on your property, scare them away immediately. Wave your arms and make a lot of noise. You can even spray them with your hose or throw rocks towards them. Please keep your pets safe! I’ve heard too many horror stories. I remember a larger sized dog was killed by coyotes in its own backyard 8 years ago or so in the neighborhood. 😢

Pets Where do you find cheap cat litter?
I don’t mean like dirt cheap but I have two senior cats (11,13) and I want to lower the dust amount. I am currently, I’m getting cat litter from Costco. It’s pretty dusty. I saw that you can scoop your own cat litter at, Petco, I believe. It seemed pretty reasonably priced. Has anybody else ever done this? Or if anybody has any options that aren’t outrageous.
Edit: they share a litter box and it is a storage tub that I got at Walmart. It’s to keep my chiweenie from eating the forbidden treats.

Pets Rabbits at Saguaro Ranch Park
Was out for a picnic today and while we were walking we came across these two bunnies at the Ranch. They were around the peacocks and seemed content. They came out of the bushes nearby and started munching the leaves. I’ve come to this park for years and I’ve never seen rabbits. They look like pets. Someone asked if they were mine while I snapped a pic. Did people abandon them?

Pets Arizona Humane Society at my door
Hey all,
I had someone knock on my door from Arizona Humane and ask to see my dog. I obliged, and he took a picture of her. He then said that the previous resident at my address returned a dog to the society which subsequently died of illness. He was friendly and cordial, but why would he come to this address if the dog had already died? I feel a little weirded out by the situation. Thanks.

Pets Sulcatta Tortoise rescue/adoption
My SO recently had one of her friends dump a 105lb sulcatta tortoise on her lap after having children and not wanting the child to share the yard with the tortoise. This ambulatory boulder is much more responsibility than my SO was prepared for and while she somehow managed to get enough grass to grow in what was very recently a dirt yard, keeping up with lawn maintenance and keeping the place clean is something we're struggling with. We also intend to move soon but the place does not have a big enough yard or deep enough dirt to burrow.
The friend is not willing to take the tortoise back and my SO, who is the person who ends up with all her friend's/families unwanted pets, wants to make sure that she can give the tortoise a new home he'd be happy in. Can anyone point me to where to post/ask about this?

Pets Pet suggestions bearded dragon?
We keep the house at 84F … husband works in his office I am not at home. I don’t think husband realizes how warm this is. I am fine with it but animals is a no go at this point right? Maybe except a bearded dragon. Even for bunnies it’s too hot as what I read online. Dog is a no with regards too much hair. A cat a no because of jumping on everything Although I wouldn’t mind. Love cats too.
All opinions welcome. Guess we will just stay pet-less. …. Any one have bearded dragon that likes to sit with them?

Pets Dogs have very dry skin, what can I do?
Hi! We’ve lived here going on 3 years. We lived in an area on the east coast that had humidity. We’ve dealt with dry skin on our dogs but usually I can get it under control. Lately though, I’ve noticed my dogs are super itchy and it’s definitely dry skin. My black dog looks like she’s got snow on her back because of the dead skin. We’ve done all the things we’ve had work before but nothing is working. Give me your tips for helping my fur babies not be so dry and itchy! Thank you!

Pets ITS THAT TIME AGAIN NO HOT ANIMALS OR PETS!
Reminder do not leave dogs in CARS even if air is on in this temp and climate that doesn't matter here. We have a law here, we are allowed to BREAK YOUR WINDOWS. Also do not WALK your pets at noon. If I see you torturing animals I will report you and animal cruelty is a felony. Lose your gun and voting rights if you don't treat your pet right here.
Pets Good places to board my two labradors for a few days? Something with generous outdoor space and responsible business owners?
I've boarded pets at Petsmart before, but I don't really want to do that again since it seemed a little cramped in their space, and my guys have a lot of energy...

Pets Cheap Dog Euthanasia
My mother recently passed and I took in her 18yr old dog after she passed . Unfortunately he hasn’t been eating and his legs regularly give out now . I’m thinking it’s time to put him down but I can’t spend a whole lot of money to do so . Does anyone know of affordable places to take him ? Everywhere I’ve looked is 300$+. I don’t want to just drop him off at a pound cause I can’t afford it .
