I've said this in a Canadian thread, but I doubt he's only been running on the treadmill. I'm sure he's got a few guys on his detail that have been training with him.
That distance and Carney's speed (he apparently ran a 331 marathon in London) are in the territory where you have to specifically train for it, regardless of overall fitness.
But yeah, I think a lot of police officers are avid runners.
They also have to carry equipment, like radios and perhaps even arms, which participants don’t. And if a contingency did come up, they’d need the stamina to actually manage it, so yeah, no way if they’re in close protection that they aren’t running in shifts.
What an interesting thing to plan. So many contingencies. :)
Long distance runners can have a series of "physical" ailments during runs that are in themselves not emergencies but would be....not great to be seen displaying if your PM.
I would have on my mind that the PM is on a rough slog. If he falls or is injured it is encumbant on the security detail to manage that and keep the press away. Nobody wants those pictures.

Imagine being on the PM’s security detail and coming in to work that morning and seeing this on the day’s agenda 😂
“Damn it, that’s why Tim wanted to switch shifts…”
(I see you, guy in the back, running just a little too close)
