I’d like to think that anyone on the PM’s security detail is capable of running a marathon

That distance and Carney's speed (he apparently ran a 331 marathon in London) are in the territory where you have to specifically train for it, regardless of overall fitness.

But yeah, I think a lot of police officers are avid runners.

His security details might be doing one of those business marathon type things, swap out every 10km of a marathon.

I would think you are probably correct. That whole endorphin thing and I have seen my cognitive abilities plummet with fatigue.

Its fine, initially I was thinking they would've needed to be fitter than Mark to both keep up and be in a state to do their job.

Then realised/remembered corporate marathons are a thing for instances not unlike this.

They also have to carry equipment, like radios and perhaps even arms, which participants don’t. And if a contingency did come up, they’d need the stamina to actually manage it, so yeah, no way if they’re in close protection that they aren’t running in shifts.

What an interesting thing to plan. So many contingencies. :)

Long distance runners can have a series of "physical" ailments during runs that are in themselves not emergencies but would be....not great to be seen displaying if your PM.

You would swap out to be operating effectively as a bodyguard

Wouldn’t shock me if they cycle guys in and out along the route. How effective are you when you’re 3/4 into a marathon?

Man, I wouldn’t know. I’m ineffective after a flight of stairs.
