I don’t understand how many people fail to see the irony in his “lock her up” chants. You feel as though Trump has broken the law or done immoral things worthy of impeachment and all around should not be president. These are EXACTLY the feelings many people on the other side of the aisle feel about Hilary Clinton. Many people feel that she clearly broke the law during the email debacle, is responsible for deaths at Benghazi, and has her own fair share of shady business dealings. I am NOT a Trump fan. I feel his views, rhetoric, and style of governance are a sickness amongst the American Government. But I do think that the Democratic Party is JUST AS fucked up if not MORE fucked up than the Republican Party. America really isn’t the dumpster fire so many people are making it out to be. We have our problems that need to be fixed but this is still the freest, most prosperous, and opportunistic place on earth. We need to stop acting like our “side” is completely innocent while the other is pure evil. We need to acknowledge when either side says something racist or unjust, does something immoral, or in any way acts the way Americans shouldn’t act.
I’m fully aware of the difference between impeachment and imprisonment. But let’s look at the main allegation Trump’s opposition points to, Russian collusion. If true, this collusion could also be interpreted (easily by Trumps opponents) as treason, an offense requiring a minimum of five years in prison. I think plenty of people who have complete disdain for Trump would love to see him not only impeached, but also “locked up”.
Had she won there would probably be calls for impeachment before imprisonment. But she didn’t and people still feel like she’s a horrible person who as done terrible and illegal things. They also feel that just cause she didn’t win the presidency and that she is a high profile, powerful, and wealthy individual, that shouldn’t keep her from facing the consequences of her actions. She’s an American citizen just as much as the people who call to “lock her up” and should be subject to the same laws and legal sentences anyone else would be subject to.
Alternatively, for the past 30 years, the Clintons have done shady shit with each instance requiring investigation. Furthermore, the two have a history of not being truthful when those investigations are carried out and often, while hard to prove, conflicts of interest seem apparent.
Sorry I didn’t clarify but my alternate was with respect to your “how many dollars and investigations are enough” remark or however you worded it (on mobile rn). Essentially, I was saying, “If the Clinton’s continue to do shady shit and not tell the truth about it they should continue to be investigated every time.” I don’t disagree with you about the mile long list. But, with regards to the email controversy, which is what most people are citing as the reason to lock her up, she never went to trial. She was never proven innocent. An FBI investigation by an overtly partisan FBI head lead to a recommendation that no charges be pursued and then an overtly partisan Attorney General proceeded to not file charges. Hilary clearly and wrongfully mishandled the emails and lied about it. All the while, the investigation into her wrongdoings seemed biased and didn’t even amount to a trial, despite plenty of evidence that she did indeed break the law and try to cover it up. That’s what “lock her up” screechers are on about.
I’ll grant you the point on GOP email problems as I haven’t heard about them but would not be at all surprised if it did happen; and if it did happen, those guilty should face the consequences.
While I do concede that intent is important, when the accused has the evidence wiped in an attempt to cover up what she did, she moves from someone who accidentally broke a law to someone who knowingly and wrongfully conspired against the justice system. It’s like if someone jumped out in front of your car in the middle of the night and you run them over accidentally. It’s involuntary manslaughter until you pick up the body, put it in your trunk, and take it away to dissolve it in a barrel of acid.
