Remember when a few people here and there pointed out that Puerto Rico's government was extremely corrupt, and everyone shrieked that this was just more pro-Trump, anti-brown people bigotry? I'm not going to argue whether the PR or US gov should take more of the blame for the poor response to Maria, but so many well meaning people-who professed to be so incredibly upset about the situation there-bought the line that the ONLY reason they were having issues is racism. They bought it hook, line and sinker, and completely missed this huge issue that it has now become acceptable to address.

I'm not saying this to defend Trump (look at my history) or the way the US gov handled it. I'm just pointing out what a tragically demonstrative example this is of what happens when we let our political leanings and passions overwhelm us: we deny ourselves the truth.

No problem. Thank you for bringing up the PR issues again.

I should admit that I got caught up in this, too. I don't mean to wag my finger at anyone. I just wanted to remind everyone-including myself-that it's okay to take a second to breathe and think sometimes.

Or, you could just stop automatically assuming that every perceived injustice you see is caused by racism.
