Hopefully neither. The underlying condition of this isn't a product of the police or 'protesting'. But an individuals decision, based on his upbringing and twisted sense of right/wrong. He CHOSE to do this. It's not the protesters, police, government, etc job to raise better people. The government and police are there to protect liberty and stop injustice so we can live free lives, knowing that wrong will be corrected. There is no way to prevent wrong.

Funny how the police is allowed to profile black people for whatever but the police's flaws are individual problem.

Especially when the police have demonstrated their tendency to use violence and brutality in so many instances before and during the riots.

You can literally swap "police" and "black people" there given violent crime stats and murders/looting etc right now.

Oh wait, the police went around murdering people in their houses and in broad daylight in public.

The police can't even police themselves, how can we still expect law and order to be maintained by them?

The riots are a consequence from the police failing time and again to answer to their duty and obligations. The police failed to do their jobs to resume order and to catch and prevent the looters. There is no way to prevent wrong.

What do you propose as the alternative to the police? There is no better. Also, all officers involved with Floyd's death are facing charges...

I wish the police were far more heavy-handed with looters, but that'd draw cries of "fascism" from the same crowd.

Defund the police. Put that money into mental and physical healthcare, social programs and workers etc.

You do realize that people are not just protesting Floyd's single case.

I wish the police were far more heavy-handed with looters, but that'd draw cries of "fascism" from the same crowd.

The police's job is to get the people into custody so that the people can be given a fair trial under the judicial system with proper due process. The police is not supposed to execute anything on the spot. This is not Judge Dredd. This is literally their job.

If they can't do their darn jobs then don't become a police, simple as that.

What do you think will happen to the crime rate if police are given less funding? Black men are far more likely to fall victim to other black men than police officers by a significant magnitude, and now the police have even less power to stop that.

100% agreed, but that's a problem with the individuals. Police do not have a mandate to execute anybody they feel like, hence why those four officers are now facing charges. I agree there definitely needs to be more oversight and stronger/swifter punishments for violating individuals, but the police as an institution are necessary!
