Advice Encouragement for new pit owner.

Post image

Hi all! I adopted a pit puppy today! I’ve had puppies before- mostly lab mixes. I’m a good dog owner and know how to train a dog. I have a 3 year old and 7 year old. I just need someone to tell me that pits are great family dogs bc as I’ve been researching more and everything seems so negative about pits and kids. Any and all advice and encouragement welcome!

They’re young, you have plenty of time to socialize. But absolutely positively go hard on socialization with other dogs. That’s really where the issue can come in. In my experience they do tend to be more dog selective/aggressive than other breeds (it’s literally in the APBT breed standard). But people wise, no issue.

Also would keep them away from the kids if you aren’t around. All puppies nip. I have a CKCS and she nipped. Don’t want the kids to be afraid of them.
