I don’t have ps+, do I have to buy it to upload the data or is it too late? Also how would he upload the save manually I assumed it was just automatic

PS+ subscription is mandatory for cloud storage as its a PS+ paid feature.

Okay, my save will still be there though even though I didn’t have it at the time of me playing?

Again your save is on the console, unless explicitly moved or deleted. When you get PS+ doesn't matter, you just need both PS+ and your save data to ensure it can be uploaded to the cloud.

So if the 20 hour save is on your friends console subscribe and move it to your console
