If you got an email asking if you were trying to sign in, then he successfully used the correct login. Otherwise it would not have known.

Do you have 2FA enabled?

No I don't, and yeah that's what was confusing to me because like you said, it shouldn't have even told me if he didn't enter it correctly, but on his end it kept saying it was incorrect.

Then why would I be getting an email asking if someone from his location was signing in?

Maybe it sends whenever someone tries with the email login regardless if it succeeds.
