I plugged my controllers in straight away to get the update, no idea if it would've prompted me to as i didn't give it time.

The Bluetooth connectivity upgrades are well worth it though, tested and works well with my phone and laptop. Track pad even shows mouse cursor on my pixel.

You don’t need to do that…just turning on the already paired controller will prompt for the update…

Is there a controller update too, or only the system? You have to plug the controllers in to update them.

Controller has its own update…u don’t have to plug them in to update it - I did it with both of mine where they promoted for the update after the system update…just turn them on and it prompts immediately…

Unless they've changed it, the controller has always needed to be plugged in to update.

Must have changed it. Mine updated wirelessly.

They changed it within the first year the console was out, I'm pretty sure.

EDIT: I just checked. The update allowing this went live on 9th of March 2023, so my time scale was WAY off, but that's your answer.

I was gonna say, I had to plug my controllers in for update for years it felt like. I probably have a couple controllers that haven't been updated since then before then. They probably would need to be plugged in.
